The City of Aiken proposes construction of a new alignment connector road and bridge between East Pine Log Road and the South Centennial Avenue Connector. The project will include improvements to Powderhouse Road SE south from East Pine Log Road for approximately 0.25 miles, and construction of approximately 1.1 mi of new roadway extending to the south and connecting to the South Centennial Avenue Connector. Together with the South Centennial Avenue Connector, the project will provide an alternative route of travel for vehicles between East Pine Log Road and Whiskey Road.
A public information meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Odell Weeks Activity Center, 1700 Whiskey Road, Aiken, South Carolina 29803. The meeting will have a drop-in format with displays for viewing, informational handouts, and comment forms. Project information, including meeting materials, will also be available on the City of Aiken website (https://edoc.cityofaikensc.gov/WebLink/Browse.aspx?id=2859444). A formal presentation will not be given at this time, nor will formal verbal comments be taken. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and provide comments regarding the proposed improvements. In the future, when an official Public Hearing is held; a formal presentation will be given during the meeting and the citizens will have the opportunity to make verbal comments immediately following the formal presentation. The purpose of this public meeting is to provide an opportunity to review and discuss individually, with representatives from the City and the Federal Highway Administration, the proposed road. Another purpose of the meeting will be to gather local knowledge from the public or any interested organizations regarding historic or cultural resources in the area. The purpose of the project is to provide relief to the congested Whiskey Road corridor, south of the intersection with Pine Log Road, by opening additional routes to East Pine Log Road (SC 302) and Centennial Parkway.
