A unique integrated facade system that offers architects greater design freedom
Benchmark Kreate integrated facade system by Kingspan combines seamless aluminium cassette facades with insulated panel technology, delivering a single component that offers almost limitless design capability. It also allows a fast build time, single-fix installation and thermal continuity.
Benchmark Kreate offers a world of benefits compared to traditional rainscreen systems. The seamless cassettes of Benchmark Kreate are cleverly integrated into each insulated panel, making it a unique one-component metallic facade system.
With the ability to specify the colour, size and configuration of each cassette with rounded corners, Benchmark Kreate offers new ways to achieve design visions. This paves the way for creative multicoloured, multi-textured facades to brighten up offices, customize commercial buildings or add a splash of inspiration to schools and hospitals.
Along with design flexibility, Benchmark Kreate offers all the advantages of an insulated panel system, which include ease and speed of build, and exceptional lifetime performance for durability, fire prevention, sustainability, thermal integrity and thermal insulation.
Unlike the angular corners found on traditional cassettes, Benchmark Kreate cassettes have been engineered with rounded corners. They provide a smooth, contoured finish and give each facade a fresh and contemporary appearance. In addition to this, the joints between each panel are fitted with a factory-applied seal to ensure an airtight fit with leakage of less than 5 m³/hr/m².
Traditional building envelope products feature multiple components, which take a long time to install and have multiple potential points of failure. Benchmark Kreate is a single-component, in-built factory-assembled quality panel that is supplied and delivered by just one company. It can be quickly and easily installed with the aid of mechanical lifting equipment in one step, meaning buildings are weather-tight sooner and overall project times are significantly reduced. There is also a reduced risk of accidents, as less time is spent working at height.
Benchmark Kreate is a safe and aesthetically flexible product that offers high performance standards. Depending on individual specification, it can achieve R-values as high as 7.65 m2 K/W, while the product itself is ECOsafe with a polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation core that contains no CFCs or HCFCs. kingspanpanels.com.au/products/benchmark-by-kingspan

Emissions from the manufacture of carbon-neutral bricks are 96% lower than traditional fossil-fuel kilns. Bricks can also help regulate temperatures within a home. australbricks.com.au

P40 is a large-spanning pergola awning beautifully designed to provide retractable weather protection for outdoor entertaining areas. P40 provides protection from both sun and rain over areas up to 6,500 mm wide and projections of up to 7,000 mm. The maximum area for a single awning is 32.5 m 2.

The side rails can be straight or optionally curved, and a third option combines the two for a straight guide with a curved end for clean water run-off. This awning can be left extended in the rain provided it is angled at least 15 degrees from horizontal. shadefactor.com.au

Schueco TipTronic automation adds design sophistication, particularly when used with Schueco’s advanced tilt/turn window systems. Importantly, because the motor drives are completely concealed within the frames, the clean lines of the windows are preserved. schueco.com

Results announced at gala dinner celebration
The results of the 2014 Australian Interior Design Awards were revealed at a special presentation at The Ballroom, Hilton Sydney on Friday 16 May. Hundreds of architects and designers gathered to honour this year’s winners.
Loft Apartment, West Melbourne by Adrian Amore Architects received the premier award for Interior Design Excellence and Innovation, as well as the Residential Design award. According to the jury, the project was distinguished by its fresh interpretation of design.
“The spatial planning within the apartment reveals the hand of the designer; a skilful hand that expertly creates and explores volume, plasticity and light, culminating in an interior that is invigorating, sumptuous and liveable.”
The wide range of projects recognized and the abundance of diverse, innovative projects persuaded the judges that Australia’s local talent is better than ever.
“With record entries in the Hospitality and Workplace categories, this year’s awards showcase the best of Australian design,” says event manager Jacinta Reedy.
“The pool of winners at this year’s awards represents some of the brightest talents in Australia’s design industry. The jury recognized in these projects new directions in interior design, including clever use of raw materials, a love of simplicity and restrained approach to design.”
Co-presented by the Design Institute of Australia, Designex and Artichoke magazine, the awards have been Australia’s most prominent and well-regarded program for recognizing professional interior design for eleven years. This year’s jury comprised Susanna Bilardo, director, Enoki (SA); Matthew Blain, principal, Hassell (NSW); Hamish Guthrie, director, Hecker Guthrie (Vic); Victoria Judge, associate, Smart Design Studio (NSW); Paul Kelly, director, Paul Kelly Design (NSW); Geraldine Maher, principal, Jackson Architecture (Vic); Ryan Russell, director, Russell & George (Vic); and Christina Waterson, principal, Christina Waterson Studio (Qld). The jury was supported by John Gertsakis of Infoactiv Group (Vic) as sustainability adviser, and Joanne Cys (FDIA), associate professor in interior architecture at the University of South Australia, as jury convenor.
The 2014 Australian Interior Design Awards would not be possible without corporate supporters Forbo Flooring Systems, Dulux, Laminex, Smeg, Space, Bespoke, Isis and The Hatton.
