First with GRP sill for aluminum frames from Aluprof • Contractor

The brand new Building Special Heat Pumps lists trends and developments in the field of heat pumps and describes concrete applications of heat pumps in buildings in a few articles.

BUVA, Atoom13 and Aluprof have joined forces to develop a first in the aluminum frame industry.BUVA's IsoStone glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) sill is used in Aluprof's frame system, making faster installation and therefore cost savings for the building party, says Tim van Luijk, product manager of Isostone sills and profiles at BUVA. The glass fiber reinforced plastic sill IsoStone has also been used for a long time on wooden and plastic frames for doors and windows.Aluprof also wanted to use this sustainable sill variant for its window/door frame system and brought together BUVA and manufacturer of aluminum frames Atoom13 for further development and engineering. The sill can be used for inward opening, outward opening and fixed glass frames.

“The innovative sill offers a number of advantages when applied to an Aluprof frame system,” says Tim van Luijk. “The profile of the IsoStone sill consists of a number of hollow chambers. The air present in those rooms provides an insulating effect. These rooms can possibly be filled with PUR for extra insulation. This sill insulates much better than a stone sill and also prevents a cold bridge.”

According to Tim van Luijk, the glass fiber reinforced plastic sill fits seamlessly with the aluminum framework of the Aluprof frame, making it aesthetically correct in combination with the sleek aluminum profiles. And what is also important: the material is many times lighter than bluestone.“Natural stone (bluestone) sills for doors usually have to be carried by two people. This is no longer necessary with the GRP sill, because it is much lighter,” says Van Luijk.

The GRP sill, which has an expected lifespan of between 50 and 100 years, can easily be attached to the vertical frame posts. If desired, BUVA can also use PE strips in combination with the sill.According to Van Luijk, BUVA provides custom work and the range will become wider when the IsoStone sill has also been developed for other system houses. The sill solution is suitable for both inward and outward opening door and window frames.

The first orders have now been written and will be delivered within a few weeks.
