Global manufacturer plans to expand North American HQ in Farmington | Hartford Business Journal

A German company is planning to expand its Farmington footprint with a 14,671-square-foot addition to its manufacturing and engineering facility on Hyde Road.

Ebm-papst Inc., which manufactures energy-efficient fans and motors, has its North American headquarters on a sprawling 27-acre campus in Farmington.

The company has a 118,424-square-foot office space and warehouse at 100 Hyde Road, and a 106,122-square-foot production facility with additional offices at 110 Hyde Road. The two buildings are connected by a covered walkway.

Ebm-papst has submitted a request for a special permit and site plan approval to the Planning and Zoning Commission. A public hearing is set for March 25.

The addition will allow the manufacturing operation to “better handle material shipments and processing,” according to the project narrative.

A new drive-through bay will improve truck circulation. The project also includes modifications to the parking lot to accommodate the new part of the building.

As part of the project, 28 parking spaces will be eliminated, leaving 273 parking spaces at the site, which is more than the town’s zoning regulations require.

New landscaping around the renovated areas will provide screening and improve aesthetics, and new lighting will be installed, according to the plans.

Construction is expected to begin this year in late spring or early summer.

Worldwide, ebm-papst Group, a family-owned company, employs about 15,000 people at 27 production sites and 52 sales offices. It has more than 500 U.S. employees between its locations in Farmington and Telford, Tennessee.
