A 20-foot model of what a new Naples Pier will look like was unveiled during the city council meeting Wednesday and the city manager gave an update on the landmark’s rebuilding progress.

It’s been more than a year and a half since Hurricane Ian destroyed the pier. Chad Merritt, Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities, says without interruptions, construction is estimated to take around 18 months.

“It’s in a very dense area and a very narrow area, we don’t have a lot of space to work with,” Merritt said. “So what we’ve done is tried to provide contractors with options to work off of large barges and that keeps a lot of the construction equipment offshore.”

In the Naples Pier design plans, you can see a small part of 12th Avenue South, and one beach access will be closed for staging. Nearby businesses and people who live downtown are hoping the city does their best to minimize traffic.

“I hope it just goes smoothly for the people, and they have good weather so they can get it done as soon as possible and do it right,” John Guilderson, a Naples resident, said.

In order to complete the historic pier, the city of Naples has created the Naples Pier Fund in congestion with the Collier Community Foundation. You can donate here.

The rebuild is expected to cost around $23 million, and the city said it’s prepared to borrow up to $13 million to move the project ahead.
