Die-setter in Jackson County killed after being crushed by half of die, says MIOSHA

JACKSON COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) said a die-setter worker at Dexter Stamping in Sandstone Township died in Jackson Monday.

On July 15 just after 8 a.m., a 36-year-old die-setter in Jackson was moving and lifting a die-cast with a crane when the swivel bolt broke loose, according to MIOSHA. precision milling

The weight shifted, causing the entire die-cast to fall. The employee was then crushed by the falling die-cast.

MIOSHA said that according to the employer’s incident report, the swivel bolt was not fully threaded into the die and had come out of the hole.

Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be a factor in the incident.

This was the 14th Michigan worker death of 2024 reported to MIOSHA.
