The Best Bathroom Mirror Buying Guide

Better Homes & Gardens / David Hattan

When shopping for bathroom mirrors, you need to be strategic. After all, it’s one of the first things you see in the morning and one of the last you'll see before you go to bed at night—you want to be happy with your purchase.

Tara Gilson at Uber Interiors suggests considering the bathroom as a whole, "including the tiles and flooring as well as the colors and textures of your design—you should be able to seamlessly integrate it into your bathroom space without overpowering or distracting from the other furniture in the room."

In addition to Gilson, we also spoke to Artem Kropovinsky of Arsight, Samantha Sadowy of Est Est Interior Design, and licensed real estate broker and owner of The California Home Buyer Adrian Pedraza for their insight.

To come up with a list of the best bathroom mirrors, we researched the category extensively, considering factors like shape, size, functionality, and affordability.

It offers a budget-friendly option with various sizes and trim styles, easy installation, and a lightweight design for solo hanging.

It doesn't have advanced features like a backlight or defogging switch, and its design is more basic than other options on our list.

If you’re on the hunt for an affordable, no-frills bathroom mirror, we recommend the Amazon Basics Rectangular Wall Mount Mirror. It’s perfect for DIYers looking to update their bathrooms on a budget.

It’s available in four sizes, from 16 x 20 inches to 30 x 40 inches, and four trim styles to match your bathroom decor. You can also order it in black, barnwood, brass, nickel, walnut, or white finishes. The frame is made from plastic but designed to mimic the look of real wood or metal, giving it a more upscale appearance.

This mirror can be hung horizontally or vertically. It has all the necessary hardware for easy installation and is light enough for one person to hang on their own without assistance, so you can have it up within minutes of unboxing it.

It’s a stylish and functional statement piece with open storage space, a rustic barn door design, and multiple color options.

The wood construction might require extra care in humid environments.

The FirsTime & Co. Ingram Barn Door Wall Mirror with Shelf is a stylish and functional option that offers open storage space and a rustic barn door design. It’s not specifically marketed as a bathroom mirror, but the open shelving makes it convenient for storing bathroom essentials or displaying decorative items.

This mirror is available in four color options: white, rustic white, brown, and espresso. It’s made of real wood, which may be more susceptible to moisture damage in a humid bathroom environment. However, it features a painted finish that helps protect against moisture.

It measures on the smaller side, making it suitable for compact bathroom spaces. Though we wouldn’t recommend it for a main bath with a larger vanity area, it can be a charming addition to small bathrooms or powder rooms. It’s lightweight and easy to install, but you’ll need your own hardware.

The dimmable backlight has a memory function that remembers your settings when you turn it on and off.

Its modern and sleek design may not be the best fit for traditional or vintage-style bathrooms.

Recommended by licensed real estate broker Adrian Pedraza, owner of The California Home Buyer, the KeonJinn LED Bathroom Mirror is simple, functional, and stylish. It features a backlight and works horizontally or vertically, making it a versatile choice for any bathroom layout.

“The horizontal shape works nicely centered above his-and-hers sinks or a double vanity,” says Pedraza. “I'm a big fan of the dimmable LED lighting that evenly brightens the mirror—it's perfect for checking your makeup!”

The backlight has a built-in memory function that remembers your preferred brightness setting. You can hardwire it or plug it in for installation. (Hardwiring it may save energy in the long run.) There’s also a defogging switch that helps keep the mirror clear and steam-free, even during hot showers.

Even with these bells and whistles, the Keonjinn LED Bathroom Mirror is reasonably priced, making it a great option for those looking for a mid-range rectangular mirror for their bathroom. But if you’re interested in a framed option, it may not be the best choice for you.

It pivots for adjustable viewing angles, allowing you to tilt the mirror up to 3 inches for the perfect height.

The chrome color option is really a polished nickel finish.

The Red Barrel Studio Woodvale Metal Rectangle Wall Mirror is a great option for those who prefer a more traditional or vintage-style bathroom. Although this mirror lacks advanced features like a backlight or defogging switch, it makes up for it with its elegant and timeless design.

The brushed gold finish complements any bathroom decor, and the metal frame adds durability. It’s also available in a variety of sizes and five different frame finishes.

The pivots on either side allow you to tilt the mirror up to 3 inches, making it suitable for taller and shorter individuals, including children. Just remember to consider this when installing it. The beveled edges also add a more polished look.

We should mention that some users say that the chrome color option is really more of a nickel-colored finish that can also chip or rub off fairly easily, so keep that in mind if you're specifically looking for a chrome mirror.

It features a beveled edge for a contemporary and elegant look, making it a versatile option to complement any bathroom style, with thick, durable glass.

This mirror is 15 pounds and may require assistance for installation due to its weight.

The Better Bevel Frameless Beveled Oval Mirror is a beautiful and versatile piece that fits right into any bathroom style, no matter your taste. Its classic oval shape and sleek, frameless design make the room feel more open and airy, which is ideal for smaller spaces or half-baths.

The delicate beveled edge has a subtle elegance that you don't always find in framed mirrors, and the thick glass ensures it'll hold up over time without sacrificing style.

You'll likely need a friend to help you hang the mirror since it's a bit heavy—15 pounds—but the included mounting hardware makes it super easy to install in 10 minutes or so. Plus, it comes in different sizes, so you can find the best fit for your bathroom.

It features a rust-proof frame with multiple finish options and shatterproof HD glass, making it a safe and durable choice for your bathroom.

The two-inch ledge on the frame might require extra cleaning to maintain its appearance.

For about $20 more than the Better Bevel option, the Tetote Oval Metal Frame Wall Mirror offers more customization with six rust-proof finishes. Although it only comes in one oval size, the mirror is also available in other shapes, like rectangular and square, if you're looking for something different.

The aluminum alloy frame adds an interesting design element, but its two-inch ledge might require a bit of extra dusting to keep it looking its best.

The mirror is designed with safety in mind, featuring shatterproof HD glass and a secure French cleat mounting system. While it's easy to install, you might want to grab a friend to help hold it in place due to its weight.

Product Details: Type: Framed | Dimensions: 22 x 30 inches | Mount Type: French cleat

It has pre-installed hooks to make installation easier.

This mirror doesn't include any shelves or compartments for storage.

Pedraza also recommends the Andy Star Oval Mirror, a modern, minimalist option available in multiple sizes and frame finishes. Depending on your preference and the layout of your bathroom, you can hang it vertically or horizontally.

“There's something so chic about the pill shape that upgrades contemporary bathrooms,” Pedraza adds. “The floating gap between the sturdy black frame and the wall is a gorgeous detail. This statement piece adds drama over a bathtub or vanity.”

This mirror doesn’t include fancy features or shelving, but the frame's matte, rust-proof finish resists fingerprints for easy upkeep, while the durable 9mm MDF backboard promises lasting quality. Its compact size is perfect for half-baths or smaller spaces, and the pre-installed hooks make hanging easier, even though it's a bit heavier.

It’s available in both frontlit and backlit styles and features a convenient anti-fog function with an automatic shutoff for added safety.

You may want to use stronger brackets or double-sided tape when hanging.

The KeonJinn Oval LED Mirror is a cool option for adding a bit of spa-like ambiance to your bathroom. The soft glow from the LED lights around the edges is perfect for getting ready or relaxing. If you prefer a backlit look, there's also a version with lights behind the mirror itself.

One of the best features of this mirror is the anti-fog feature, which means it won’t streak after a hot shower. It also has an auto-shutoff, so you don't have to worry about accidentally leaving it on.

The two buttons on the front make it easy to adjust the brightness and turn the anti-fogger on and off. While the light is great for makeup or shaving, it won't replace your main bathroom light.

A nice bonus is that you don't have to hardwire it—just plug it into an outlet. However, some users have mentioned the included brackets didn’t feel secure enough for the mirror and suggest purchasing stronger ones or using double-sided tape for extra security when hanging it.

It’s an affordable mirror with a shatterproof design for extra safety and security in busy households.

Some areas of the mirror may have a slight distortion.

If you're looking for a simple yet stylish mirror, the Oruii Round Wall Mirror is a budget-friendly option that doesn't skimp on quality.

It comes in a variety of sizes and two brushed aluminum frame finishes, so you're sure to find something to fit your space. While it doesn't have extra features like a backlight or defogger, the Oruii mirror has a shatterproof design, making it a safer choice for busy households.

The high-definition mirror claims to provide a distortion-free reflection, and the MDF backing ensures durability. Bear in mind that some users do report a slight distortion in certain areas of the mirror. Its pre-installed hooks and lightweight design make installation quick and easy.

This luxe-looking mirror is affordable and comes in two sizes to fit any bathroom.

This mirror is only available in a round shape.

The Ushower Round Frameless Wall Mirror is one way to give your bathroom a dose of modern luxury reminiscent of a high-end hotel. The sleek, minimalist appearance of the frameless design and the generous one-inch beveled edge help to create a spacious feel and maximize natural light.

It comes in two sizes, making it suitable for hanging in larger bathrooms or smaller powder rooms where you want to create the illusion of more space. High-quality materials like sturdy glass and backing ensure a crystal-clear, distortion-free reflection that won't warp or discolor over time.

Additionally, the quarter-inch thick tempered glass adds a layer of safety, making it more resistant to breakage. This mirror is only available in a round shape, which might not be ideal if you're looking for something angular. Pre-installed metal brackets, screws, and bumpers help with installation.

It’s guaranteed to be a conversation piece and can be customized to fit your bathroom.

This mirror is a handmade import, so it may require a longer shipping time and extra care due to its delicate nature.

The Pineapple Mosaics Mosaic Wall Mirror is a true statement piece that will instantly elevate any room. Its intricate mosaic frame, crafted with colorful glass and ceramic tiles in shades of blue, red, purple, gold, and green, is a guaranteed conversation starter.

This handmade mirror comes in four sizes, including a square option, allowing you to find the perfect fit for your space. If you're looking for something even bigger, the seller can create custom sizes upon request.

While it's a bit of an investment, its design and handcrafted quality make it a worthwhile addition to your home. It arrives ready to hang with all the necessary wall fixings attached, and the sturdy MDF base is sealed for protection and finished with white grout and paint for a polished look.

Shipping may take a bit longer as it's made by hand in the UK, but the wait will be worth it for this beautiful, eye-catching piece.

It’s made from premium float glass, has a sturdy MDF backboard, and comes in four sizes.

While the included metal hook makes installation easy, you may want to consider alternative mounting options to avoid potential difficulties during removal.

The Evenlive Asymmetrical Mirror makes an impression as soon as you enter the room. Its irregular shape brings a sense of modern artistry. Whether you hang it vertically or horizontally, the versatile design lets you play with angles and perspectives, creating an interesting focal point in your bathroom.

Crafted from premium float glass and a sturdy MDF backboard, the mirror is stylish and durable. The included metal hook makes installation easy, so you can transform your bathroom into a space that reflects your individual style.

However, some customers have reported difficulty removing it later, which may damage the wall. To prevent this, consider using alternative mounting hardware or consulting a professional for installation and removal. It’s available in four sizes, so you have options if you need something a bit smaller.

Its irregular wooden frame design makes for an artsy focal point.

This mirror is fairly heavy, so make sure it’s hung securely.

If you’re looking for an unconventional mirror, Pedraza recommends the Cassilando Irregular Asymmetrical Mirror, which "catches your eye with its jagged, uneven shape." Pedraza adds, “It gives off relaxed boho vibes that stand out in a minimalist space. The reflective shards in varying sizes make it feel alive.”

Crafted from high-quality float glass, the mirror provides a distortion-free reflection. Its best feature is its irregular wooden frame design, which adds a touch of modern artistry and makes it a focal piece. The thin black frame isn’t just stylish and durable; it protects the mirror while enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

This mirror might not work in a traditional or symmetrical bathroom design, but it's a good choice if you're looking to give your bathroom a visual twist. It’s also fairly heavy (about 16 pounds) so it’s recommended that you make sure it’s hung very securely.

Its organic shape and versatility allow classic and modern styling options.

The mirror's surface may require a bit more care to avoid scratches.

The WallBeyond Asymmetrical Mirror's organically shaped design and flowing lines create a sense of fluidity and movement. While it's a natural fit for bohemian or mid-century modern bathrooms, its appeal is truly universal.

The mirror can be hung vertically for a classic look or horizontally to create a wider visual field, ideal for reflecting light and opening up smaller spaces.

Additionally, it comes in two other frame finishes and four sizes. Pair it with lush greenery like hanging plants or potted ferns to give your bathroom a more natural, organic feel.

One thing to note: some users have mentioned that the mirror's surface may be slightly more prone to scratches than traditional mirrors. However, you can preserve its appearance with extra care in handling and cleaning.

Its decorative arch adds elegance and grandeur to any bathroom.

While not ideal for close-up tasks, its beauty makes it a stunning addition to any bathroom.

The Kate and Laurel Arendahl Traditional Arch Mirror exudes elegance and sophistication with its ornate, baroque-inspired frame. Adorned with a decadent garland overlay and topped with a graceful arch, the mirror is glamorous in its intricate details.

The mirror's reflective surface serves a practical purpose and amplifies natural light, creating the illusion of a larger, more open space, especially in smaller bathrooms.

While some have found its unique shape more suited for decorative purposes than close-up grooming, the mirror's aesthetic allure is undeniable.

"A bathroom vanity mirror should ideally align with the width of the vanity itself, serving as a harmonious extension of the space. It can extend a few inches beyond, but not less than, the vanity size for a balanced look,” Kropovinsky says. For example, if your vanity is 30 inches wide, the mirror should also be at least 30 inches wide.

Ultimately, your bathroom mirror's shape depends on your preference and style. For Gilson, oval mirrors complement modern bathroom decor, while rectangular mirrors are more versatile and work well in various bathroom settings.

"Whether you have a lot of room or your space is on the smaller size, rectangle mirrors suit a range of design styles and are available in a variety of sizes to suit your space," says Gilson.

"With a vibrant backdrop, a framed mirror can provide a defined edge, or a frameless mirror can provide a more modern look by reflecting more light, making a smaller space appear larger,” Kropovinsky says.

When it comes down to it, the decision depends on what you need and want from your bathroom mirror. This includes its functionality, price point, overall aesthetic, and ease of maintenance. For example, "I don't typically use mirrors with ledges as they just become a dust magnet and another place to keep clean," Sadowy says.

If you like to multitask in the bathroom, a smart mirror like the Lugano mirror by Lexora may be the mirror for you. Or, if you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, a traditional mirror with a stylish frame may be the way to go.

Kropovinsky says the mount type you choose depends on the materials you're working with and how much work you’re willing to do. “Consider the wall type and strength when selecting the mount,” Kropovinsky adds.

Surface-mounted mirrors are attached to the wall with screws or adhesive, whereas recessed mirrors are installed into the wall. “Surface-mounted mirrors are easier to install, while recessed mirrors offer a sleek, integrated look,” Kropovinksy says.

Lighting is one of the most important factors to consider when remodeling or designing a room. This is especially true in the bathroom, where you get ready each morning. Backlighting is a great option for bathroom mirrors. It provides even, diffused light that’s ideal for makeup application and shaving. Backlighting can also make the bathroom feel larger and more spacious.

However, there are a few additional things you'll need to consider, including the power source and placement of the mirror. "Do you need an outlet that the mirror will plug into, or does it need to be hardwired?" Sadowy says. "If hardwired, is the switch on the mirror itself or on the wall? Lighted mirrors are a fantastic choice but require a bit more technical planning."

When it comes to size, Gilson says the bigger the mirror, the better.

“Go large! Instead of hanging a smaller bathroom mirror above the sink, consider mirroring a whole wall or at least a large portion of it,” says Gilson. “This acts like a window bringing a lot more light into the room and creating the illusion of a much bigger room.”

Making a bathroom appear bigger is not as hard as you might think. One simple trick to choose a frameless mirror. Not only do frameless mirrors give a modern and clean look, but they also reflect more light, which makes it feel more spacious.

“For creating an illusion of space, oversized mirrors or wall-to-wall mirrors are your best allies,” says Kropovinsky. “These mirrors reflect light and surrounding decor, doubling the visual area. For a creative twist, consider using multiple mirrors which can add depth and make the space feel more expansive.”

Bathroom mirrors are typically hung on the wall using brackets or wires, or they may be attached to a vanity with adhesive.

Most framed bathroom mirrors are hung with brackets or wires in the same way you’d hang a picture frame. The brackets are screwed into the wall studs, and the wires are threaded through the brackets and attached to the back of the mirror.

Frameless bathroom mirrors may use specific clips or rest on top of a vanity with adhesive to hold them in place. The clips are attached to the wall studs, and the mirror is then snapped into the clips. Alternatively, the mirror may be attached to the vanity with adhesive.

No matter which method you choose, it’s important to make sure that the mirror is level and secure.

While price can sometimes be an indicator of quality, it's not always a guarantee that a more expensive mirror will offer a more accurate reflection. The accuracy of a mirror depends primarily on the quality of the glass and backing used in its construction.

An expensive mirror may offer a slightly clearer and distortion-free reflection, but there are plenty of budget-friendly options that can also provide an adequate and accurate reflection for everyday use.
