Woman, 75, stabbed in head in Bronx multiple times: sources

An elderly woman was stabbed multiple times in the head on Sunday after an attacker followed her into an elevator at a residential building in the Bronx, sources said.

The unidentified 75-year-old woman was stabbed in the face and head inside 2066 Morris Avenue at 11:30 a.m. in the Tremont neighborhood, according to law enforcement sources.

Edwin Rios, 38, allegedly stabbed her numerous times. Police later apprehended the suspect on charges of attempted murder, sources said.

The victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital to be treated for her injuries. Her condition and relation to her attacker are unknown. It was unclear if she lived in the building.

Rios was on parole from a similar crime that took place in October 2012, where he followed a 22-year-old woman off a bus in Queens and stabbed her in the back two times, sources said.

He was also arrested in 2013, according to sources.

Overall crime is down in the Big Apple 2.3%, according to the NYPD. However, felony assault is up 3% and robbery is up 4.1%.

The NYPD does not publicly track stabbing incidents.
