My obsession with Tiffen Glimmerglass is real. I’m currently writing this article in November 2024 — which is the between point of when my eyes are recovering from surgery and when I will have contact lenses to let me see 20/20 again. Don’t get me wrong: I’ve literally built one of the largest online photography magazines while being legally blind for the past 14 years. And there are things about being mostly blind even with glasses on that I’m going to miss. One of them is the haze and beauty that I see the world in. The world looks a lot like how I see when I use Glimmerglass. And Tiffen Glimmerglass Bronze is even better. Take the idea of silver sparkles and make them gold — and every time that you shoot a photo, you’ll feel like you’ve hit the jackpot. divert valves
I bought Tiffen Glimmerglass Bronze filters all on my own without flexing the power of the Editorial Discount. In fact, besides the thin layer of natural diffusion that it offers, it also makes your images have a bit of a warmer white balance. But I’ll tell you a little bit of a secret: it’s almost unless unless you already lock your white balance.
That’s right — if you’re one of those people shooting in auto white balance then you should think twice. For years now, I’ve been shooting locked to either Daylight, Tungsten, or something like Flash and Shade. When you do this, the Tiffen Glimmerglass Bronze filters will really do their best jobs.
You’ll get diffusion, specular highlights, haze, and shimmers off of bright points in the scene.
They work just like most other lens filters in that you simply screw them onto the lens and then shoot. There is no need to rotate it around.
If you love shooting with lots of natural light, then you’ll thoroughly enjoy Tiffen Glimmerglass Bronze filters.
Can you do this effect with normal Glimmerglass? Not really. The Tiffen Glimmerglass Bronze filter is both a warming filter and it adds extra warmth to all the glimmer that you’ll get in your scene with point light sources. If you’re experienced enough of a photographer, you’ll understand that this is almost like using a soft gold vs a silver reflector. The look of soft gold gives a bit more shimmer than normal.
In 2024, we reported on the work of Sandra Cattaneo Adorno and how she used gold in her prints to give the idea of a dream and memory in a way that you specifically remember it. That memory might not be the total truth in how it happened, but that’s why things are sometimes best left as memories. And if you don’t see the way I do, then Tiffen Glimmerglass Bronze filters will give your photos a dreamy look that’s otherwise not possible to see.
Isn’t that what photography is about? To my, I adore the idea of creating images that a camera and the eye can’t necessarily see. Otherwise, we’re just capturing scenes in front of us. It’s one of the major reasons why I love using flash so much. In fact, in my product imagery using Tiffen Glimmerglass Bronze filters, I used a lot of flash. And this gave me images that both I and others really loved.
low pressure safety valve I got my filters from Amazon, and I’m rating them to have 5/5 stars. I’d totally buy them over and over again.
