The 21 best quilted jackets | 2024 Editor

The final arrival of warm(ish) weather has ushered in a whole host of spring summer fashion trends and we couldn't be happier about it! But let's not get ahead of ourselves, we're not at micro bikini weather just yet. Instead, we're all about those trans-seasonal heroes that embrace the new szn vibes without letting us freeze in the process. Think ballet flats, new silhouette jeans, cropped cardigans and when it comes to our outerwear of choice – a quilted jacket.

Last year, it was that Frankie Shop two-tone onion quilted jacket we saw all over our Insta feeds. And while it is still big news in 2024 (and still in stock, so if you missed out last year, now's your chance!) there has been a second statement style of quilting outerwear that's vying for our attention in the form of a more boho aesthetic.

Rather than the practical waterproof iterations in neutral shades of green, brown, black and cream – sort of like a sister to a puffer jacket, but much less bulky and with quilted stitching – at the other end of the spectrum, we've got literal quilt jackets. As in, coats lovingly and sustainably stitched together from repurposed old quilts and blankets. Sometimes featuring floral embroidery, too. They're part cottagecore, part Americana, and yes, they do remind us of our nan a bit (in the best way).

Talk about spoiled for choice, especially with bomber jackets also vying for the title of spring trophy piece. Though with select designs merging the bomber silhouette and quilted textile, you can tick two trends off in one look! It all comes down to which aesthetic you prefer. Think about where you're likely to wear the jacket, what you'll style it with, and if you want to tap into the utilitarian trend.

Though no one's saying you can't snap up more than one quilted cutie... After all, there's no denying that for 2024 a quilted jacket is a fully-fledged outerwear mainstay. So, whether you're after something minimal and classic, or colourfully maximalist, scroll on to find your new spring staple.

If we had to crown the 'It' jacket of late, it's this one: Frankie Shop's quilted 'onion-stitch' version. London's most stylish women were early adopters, either in the pistachio green version or the black, and we predict it will sell out again, stat.

Florals for spring may not be groundbreaking (come on, like we couldn't *not* quote The Devil Wears Prada) but we don't care when they're as cute as this ditsy print adorning a slouchy, dropped shoulder design.

For days when florals aren't quite your vibe, simply reverse Kitri's monochrome design to its stripy interior. Ultimate outerwear versatility.

It's no secret bomber jackets are big news RN. Tick off two trends in one thanks to this Mango quilted design.

This diamond quilted iteration is a fresh new take on the classic denim jacket. We love the frilled collar and bow-tie details – so cute.

You may not be able to shop Topshop IRL anymore, but dare we say its ASOS offerings are better than ever? This cool reversible quilted bomber look more designer than high street.

As cool as it is classic, this effortlessly edgy jacket is a serious update on Grandma quilting with its boxy, cropped silhouette and patching that gives an added dimensional look.

How refreshing is this minty green hue? This H&M+ number is lightweight enough to layer under your longline wool coats for extra warmth when winter hits.

From its velvet fabrication to the elegant shawl collar, this Sézane style is a luxurious take on the quilted jacket. And can we talk about that pretty pastel forest print?!

Barbour is arguably the OG of quilted jackets, instantly recognisable by the contrasting cord collars. Lean into country chic – wellies optional.

Want to make more sustainable fashion choices? Look no further than Lucy & Yak's quilted iteration made from deadstock cotton. And, thanks to the chic harbour check print, you don't have to compromise on style.

Timeless and minimal for every season, Whistles' Ida coat is back in this vibrant new cobalt colourway. XL diamond quilting, zipped fastening, ribbed collar and cuffs – it's no wonder this was a sellout last year.

Until wearing our dressing gown to the office is socially acceptable (probs never, tbh) we'll be keeping comfy in convincingly stylish look-alikes. We're calling this chic Mango design exhibit A.

All of our fave celebs have been spotted sporting this *exact* quilted jacket. We're talking Olivia Wilde, Taylor Swift, Vanessa Hudgens, Hilary Duff... Trust us, the list goes on.

Coming in sizes 20–26, this floral print quilted jacket is spring personified! With an abundance of flowery designs around RN, we especially love the contrasting trim that elevates this design above the rest.

Oversized fit? Onion stitching? Collarless design? This TALA quilted jacket ticks every box and more. Did we mention it's reversible, allowing you to pick from a light olive hue or a classic army green colourway depending on your mood and outfit. Yep, we're predicting an instant sell-out.

Featuring a vertical lined quilting pattern, there's a beauty to the simplicity of this Patagonia bronze jacket.

The contrast popper placket and cuffs add a regal air to this quilted jacket that we are *so* here for.

How cah-yute is the heart printing on this quilted jacket?! Diamond and onion stitching suddenly seems so boring.

Everlane has become our go-to for stylish staples with a twist – like this cool quilted mid-length liner. The lining, filling, and shell are all made with 100% recycled polyester, hence the name. Choose from four fashion-forward colours. Our fave? This rich chocolate brown colourway.
