The turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa has signed a supply agreement with Skyborn Renewables to provide its wind turbines for the 945 MW Gennaker offshore wind project, located in the German Baltic Sea. Siemens Gamesa will thus deliver 63 of its SG 14-236 DD wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW. The agreement replaces another master supply agreement signed in 2022, which provided for the delivery of 103 of Siemens Gamesa’s SG 8.0-167 DD wind turbines rated 9 MW each. Wind Generator

The project, located about 15 km north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, sits within a designated priority zone for offshore wind energy in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania coastal sea. Skyborn secured the initial building permit for the Gennaker site in 2019 and maintains site exclusivity for development. Offshore construction is expected to start in 2027. 

As of end 2023, Germany had a total wind capacity of nearly 66 GW, including 8.4 GW of offshore wind. Germany targets to reach 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, 40 GW by 2035, and at least 70 GW by 2045.
