The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 866-366-3723, uses a risk-based inspection reporting process for restaurants and other food handlers.

Sonic Drive-in #6001, 290 Wilson Ave. Hanover, Feb. 14. Fail. The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Food Employee observed donning single use gloves without a prior hand wash. (EDUCATED EMPLOYEES ON HANDWASH FREQUENCEY AND PROPER PROCEDURES). Food employee observed at grill area, wearing bracelet/watch/ring on hands or arms. (CORRECTED). An open employee’s beverage container was observed in front kitchen area (RED BULL), on stainless steel table where lemonade dispenser was observed, a food preparation area. (CORRECTED). Observed carton of Newport Cigarettes on stainless steel prep table in front of house (CORRECTED). Observed multiple food storage containers located above stainless-steel table in rear of facility to have sticker residue, food debris on food contact surfaces and was not clean to sight and touch. Stainless steel deflector plate of large Ice box a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Observed multiple cold holding unit’s interior throughout facility, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Observed green shelves in the walk-in cooler with white matter accumulation and in need of cleaning. Exterior of breading dirty and in need of cleaning. Exterior of equipment on the cooking line with grease accumulation and in need of cleaning. Observed the underside of the fountain machine with syrup splatter and in need of cleaning. Observed excessive dried dairy like product on nonfood contact surface of soft serve machine. Food facility hot water heater is not producing enough hot water to supply all hand sinks at the time of this inspection. Observed 5 Gallon bucket of grease waste from prior evening sitting on floor of kitchen beside beverage air cold holding unit and was not properly disposed of as required. (CORRECTED). Floor in the front area of food facility is made of tile and is cracked/roughened/is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Food employee personal belongings (KEYS, PHONE, INAHLER) observed on stainless steel table where order screen is although lockers are provided. Food facility is extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning. Filters of hood system were observed to have significant accumulations of static dust, dirt and grease and is in need of cleaning.

Bob-Ba-Lewie’s Jr, mobile food facility Type T, 296 S. 6th St. Mount Wolf, Feb. 12. Pass. No violations.

Mod Pizza, 2401 Market St. York, Feb. 12. Pass. Food utensil is stored on a surface that is not clean between uses. Corrected. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food (three packages of cooked meats), located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Corrected. Observed interior surfaces of cold holding equipment, in the customer service area, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces.

S&S Mart, Inc., 11 N. Main St. York New Salem, Feb. 12. Pass. Observed personal items, coat and hat, being stored on table where food is prepared. Breakfast sandwiches were held at 103°F, in the hot hold display case, rather than 135°F or above as required. Corrected. Amount of time sandwiches had been held could not be determined. Facility discarded. First bay of 3 compartment sink is being utilized as a hand sink without proper guard to prevent potential contamination of dishwater in second bay. Food Facility is not using an approved detergent-sanitizer in both compartments of the two compartment manual warewashing equipment. The handwash sink in the food prep area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air drying device. Corrected.
