According to police, the victim was at the bus stop when the man came up to him and asked him for a cigarette. That’s when, police say, the victim told the man that he did not have one in his possession.
Police said the suspect “got upset” and started fighting with the victim. During the assault, the victim was cut with a knife, a preliminary police report said.
The wounded man ran across the street to a nearby convenience store, where he was eventually found by officers. He was transported by ambulance to University Hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.
SAPD said a 30-year-old man was detained at the location by a security guard. That man has since been taken into custody and is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The man arrested has not been identified.
The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.
The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, police said.
