The program provides practical and individual training to those set to drive the 330-tonne quad road trains to and from MinRes operations such as the Onslow Iron project in WA.

The program’s training includes vehicle pre-start inspections, daily safety checks, driving on the haul road, operating the side tipper trailers, radio communications and much more

The program’s 100th candidate, Kelly Mottan, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to develop these skills.

“I’ve previously worked in the mining and logistics industry and after driving dump trucks I knew the next thing I wanted to do is drive quad road trains,” Mottan said.

“I saw the job advertised and I knew it was a company I wanted to work for with their innovative approach and investment in resort-style accommodation.

“It’s great to see women out there breaking down the barriers. For anyone considering it, I would say go for it – you have everything in front of you.”

According to MinRes, the MC program holds a 93 per cent retention rate. Once complete, MC program graduates are placed at MinRes and client sites across the Pilbara and Goldfields regions of WA.

Graduates can also progress to a fully-fledged MC driver position within six months of commencing the program.
