iPhone 17 Air Will Be No Thinner Than iPhone 6 From 2014, As Apple Has Hit A Roadblock Manufacturing Thinner Battery Substrate

Apple's iPhone lineup has become quite stagnant when it comes to design, as each year's upgrade brings slight variations while the general elements remain the same. The company is aware of its position, and it plans to introduce a new model of the iPhone 17 next year, which will be significantly thinner than the current models. The rumor mill is calling the device the iPhone 17 Air, but it appears that the company is having issues making the device thinner than it originally planned.

The OLED iPad Pro launch was quite special in a lot of ways. The device is basically a plate of glass and metal stacked together, and almost all reviews have marveled at the design of the device. We expect the same from the company, but the device will not be as thin as the company originally planned. According to "yeux1122" on the Naver, Apple is running into issues to make the iPhone 17 Air significantly thinner than the current models. drilling mud

The company is having this issue because the battery is manufactured with a thinner substrate, and it appears that Apple would have to make certain compromises. The cost of manufacturing is also relatively high, which is leading the company to fall back on its existing battery technology, making the iPhone 17 Air comparatively less thin than initially anticipated.

In Apple's initial iPhone 17 Airs design layout, the battery technology was planned to be thinner than the current models. With the ultra-thin model, the battery alone will sit between 6mm to 6.9mm. In comparison, the iPhone 6 was 6.9mm thin back when it launched in 2014 with the bendgate issue. It is safe to presume that the device will be thicker than the 6.9mm mark, as it has to fit additional components. This also means the iPhone 17 Air will not be slimmer than the iPhone 6.

Apple's 13-inch OLED iPad Pro with an M4 chip will potentially remain the thinnest device the company has produced at only 5.1mm, while the 11-inch model is 5.4mm thin. The iPhone 16 Plus is 7.6mm thick; the device that the iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace next year. It remains to be seen if the company will have a breakthrough, as it is still too early to make conclusions regarding the design. We will keep you posted on the latest, so stick around.
