The cost of manufacturing is also relatively high, which is leading the company to fall back on its existing battery technology, making the iPhone 17 Air comparatively less thin than initially anticipated.
In Apple's initial iPhone 17 Airs design layout, the battery technology was planned to be thinner than the current models. With the ultra-thin model, the battery alone will sit between 6mm to 6.9mm. In comparison, the iPhone 6 was 6.9mm thin back when it launched in 2014 with the bendgate issue. The iPhone 16 Plus is 7.6mm thick; the device that the iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace next year.
