Salin 247 shared this video of its autonomous planter no-tilling soybeans in Webster County, Iowa earlier this month. “We are making progress and are really busy planting,” Salin 247 founder Dave Krog tells Precision Farming Dealer. “This field is for an Iowa State University nitrogen response project. We will be doing a variable rate side dress N application on it in early June.”
Kendal and Carmen Quandahl reflect on their journey in precision ag, and how they became a part of Case IH’s precision training team. “We grew up on a farm, we’re farm kids,” Carmen says. “That’s where it started and just took off from there. We don’t really think about agriculture as a job, it’s just what we do.” This feature is part of CNH Industrial’s Women in Ag Series. We’re quite familiar with GUSS, the autonomous orchard sprayer. Now, a new Gus (different spelling) has entered the autonomy arena. UK-based autopickr is developing Gus, a 4-wheeled, battery powered robot that can pick asparagus autonomously on an 8–10-hour shift, according to this Industrial Vehicle Technology article.
A recent Farm Journal technology survey shows that farmers are most interested in the following cost-saving technologies: smart sprayers, fully autonomous machinery, grain bin monitoring systems and field level accounting software.
