Station 24 specializes in land-based shipboard firefighting. Members of Station 24 receive extensive training in land-based marine firefighting, and regularly interface with shipyard vessel personnel to remain current on potential shipboard fire hazards. Station 24 is part of a multi-agency group called the Fire Protection Agencies Advisory Council (FPAAC). This group operates under the Maritime Fire and Safety Association (MFSA). Station 24, along with other FPAAC agencies respond to vessel fires anywhere from Portland to Astoria through mutual-aid assistance agreements.

Station 24 has a very diverse and ever-changing fire management area. To the North and Northwest, Station 24 responds to Swan Island, which houses a large part of Portland's industrial businesses, including Daimler Trucks, Kroger, UPS and the Vigor Shipyard. Station 24's fire management area also has several neighborhoods with high density apartment buildings, trendy bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. At times, Station 24 responds to rail incidents down at Albina Yards or along Interstate Ave. where the Max line runs, as well as freeway incidents along I-5.

With deep respect for the firefighting skills and traditions of those that came before them, the current members of station 24 are proud to serve as a strong team, providing outstanding service to the citizens of North and Northeast Portland
