Meghan Markle ’’s brother has been blasted for running a vile new campaign of abuse against her on his YouTube channel. Wishbone Suspension
The Duchess of Sussex has been targeted by Thomas Markle Jr with insults and bizarre conspiracy theories. Politicians and royal expert Jennie Bond have led calls for the web giant to take responsibility.
Worse still, Thomas Markle Jr is profiting from the YouTube clips - as followers send him cash tips for the vile slurs about Prince Harry ’s wife. Meghan and her brother have been embroiled in a family feud and not reportedly not spoken in more than a decade. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond led criticism of the web rants, which she called “grotesque”.
She added: “To have your own flesh and blood lead the assault must feel like the ultimate betrayal for Meghan.” As well as electronic payments from viewers, is believed Thomas Jr will also pocket advertising revenue from YouTube. Yesterday we reported the content to the US owned social media giant, which has strict policies designed to stop offensive speech.
The videos came to light only weeks after Meg’s sister-in-law Kate Middleton fell victim to web trolls. Pointing to the torment suffered by Prince William ’s wife, who is battling cancer, royal expert Bond exclaimed: “Have we learned nothing?”. And they were recorded a matter of weeks after Meghan gave a speech warning social media is a “dangerous environment” for women.
We can disclose former glazier Thomas Jr, 57, plays up to his viewers by spreading a number of bizarre conspiracy theories about her, Prince Harry, 39, and their two children Archie, four, and Lilibet, two. We raised the content with former tech minister Damian Collins, who accused online platforms of “profiting from misery”.
He said: “The major social media companies must do more to combat harmful content on their platforms, including campaigns of harassment and intimidation. They have created systems that have not only allowed conspiracy theories to thrive, but are actively promoted by the recommendation systems designed by these big tech companies.”
In one disturbing video, posted on his channel just days ago, Markle Jnr posed as his sister by donning a long dark coloured wig and putting what appeared to be a cushion under his t-shirt, while holding a tiara. While imitating the sound of air being unleashed, he put on a mock female voice and introduced himself as “Me-gain”, a cruel nickname which has been used for the Duchess of Sussex.
In other videos, which have been viewed thousands of times, Thomas Jnr has repeated baseless online slurs about Meg’s mum Doria Ragland. And he ridiculed Meghan’s new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, calling it “American River Whore Orchard”. Just last month, Meghan gave a passionate speech at the SXSW festival in Texas when she warned social media can cause serious mental health issues.
During the keynote session she also spoke about how social media can be a “dangerous” place for young girls. And she told how she received “catty” and “cruel” comments during both of her pregnancies. She said: “We have forgotten about our humanity.” Thomas Jnr’s videos, which include him calling Meghan “a narcissist” and suffering from mental illness, are the latest chapter in a long-running feud between her and her family, including him, their sister Samantha, 59, and their father Thomas Markle Snr, 79.
The trio have been at war with Meghan since she stopped speaking to Thomas Snr after he was exposed co-operating for paparazzi style pictures and then missed her wedding to Harry in May 2018. The retired Hollywood lighting director missed the historic nuptials at Windsor’s St George’s Chapel after suffering two heart attacks in California in the weeks preceding it. And Meghan, who was instead walked down the aisle by Harry’s father King Charles, 75, later told a Netflix documentary: “I’ve lost my father in this”.
The Duchess has also been at the centre of a bitter court case launched by Samantha, who is attempting to sue her in a defamation lawsuit in Florida over comments she made during her and Harry’s 2021 TV interview with Oprah Winfrey. The suit was dismissed last month, but Samantha had since filed an appeal. Thomas Jnr previously caused embarrassment for the Duchess in January 2017 when he was arrested after threateningly holding a gun to his then girlfriend’s head during a drunken argument.
He also wrote an open letter to Harry before their wedding warning him he would regret the nuptials. In one of his most recent videos, posted earlier this week, Thomas Jnr defended his right to talk about Meghan on his YouTube channel and boasted he is now planning to cash in further by selling his own range of merchandise, including t-shirts, glasses and mugs.
Speaking as if face-to-face with his sister, he said: “It’s not just your freedom of speech Meghan, it’s everybody’s freedom of speech so like if you don’t like it, don’t watch, right. He added: “I’m gonna be riding those coattails baby! Oh yeah, if it wasn’t for Meghan Markle I don’t know what I’d be doing.” Markle Jnr’s videos could be a breach of YouTube guidelines.
They say “harassment and cyberbullying are not allowed” and claim to delete millions of videos each year for breaching their guidelines. They also say they have “clear policies” that prohibit content targeting an individual with prolonged or malicious insults or threats based on certain attributes, such as a protected group status or physical traits. Thomas Jnr, who has more than 36,000 subscribers on YouTube, did not respond when approached for comment. YouTube was approached.
