The advantage of this card is that there is a fast 32-bit embedded co-processor on board, making it a high-performance card. The PC Card is capable of very fast scan rates for DP Master and DP Slave applications. With a scan rate for a DP Master of 6000 I/O in 1ms, its performance is unmatched for data exchange between a computer and the PROFIBUS network. The PC Card DP Master functionality handles all Profibus baud rates, including 12Mbaud. The card also supports Windows "plug and play" features simplifying installation and providing increased flexibility for location of the card's memory mapped data in the host's memory.

The card uses an Intel i960 32-bit RISC processor. The host interface is fully documented and sample programs in ‘C' are supplied for custom software development. This card is a new form factor to the existing SST Profibus family including ISA, ISA Multi-Slave, PCI, PC/104, and VME form factors.
