Beaufort County, S.C. (WTGS Fox 28) — A new hemp processing facility is opening in Beaufort County. Blue Sky Processing opens on Thursday in the town of Seabrook.
They extract CBD oil and also build the equipment that processes the oil all in one spot. Cbd Oil Vape Pen Refill Filling Machine
CBD is becoming more popular, as we see it in products like lotions, lip balms, foods and even dog treats!
The president of Blue Sky, Jennifer Pfuhl, said they process the oil from hemp into different forms for different manufacturing purposes.
"We take in the material, we grind it, we put it into extraction tubes, we circulate a solvent through it and then we separate that solvent back out to end up with an oil, a cannabinoid-rich oil," said Pfuhl.
They can take the product to various stages of processing.
"We can create crude oil, which is what you get when you extract the plant. We can further purify and clarify that oil into a full spectrum distillate, we can even isolate the CBD molecule and we can sell any of those products as a bulk product to other folks that are packaging CBD products," said Pfuhl.
They also have the ability to formulate and package it.
"So we can generate a product line for a particular brand, we can make oral concentrates, lip balms and topical products, all sorts of things," said Pfuhl.
But the CEO of Blue Sky Processing, Dr. Joshua Hartsel, said this shouldn’t be confused with marijuana cannabis.
"CBD is non-psychoactive and it has a lot of health benefits. It is improving quality of life and they’re finding lots of benefits from using it," he said.
"They’re sleeping better, they’re feeling better," said Pfuhl.
When the hemp comes in, it goes in a room to extract the oils.
"We do extracts with hydrocarbons and we see a lot of people in the hemp industry extracting with ethanol. And we think that’s important because we can make a lot of products that other people can’t make with hydrocarbons," said Hartsel.
They also test the product several times to make sure it's safe.
They’re excited to expand the hemp industry in South Carolina.
"We hope to create jobs, we hope to benefit rural communities and farming communities who have a new product, a new crop and through our process, we will increase the profitability of that crop," said Pfuhl.
"It’s very exciting to be in a growing and emerging industry. People's minds are changing and the stigma is going away," said Hartsel.
They will create 16 jobs in the first three years and hope to expand from there.
