Community director donates 30 boxes, funds to Hiway 80 Rescue Mission in memory of brother

LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - Debra Christian’s younger brother, Reverend Antonio Christian, lived life with a mission of helping the homeless in East Texas.

Reverend Christian first volunteered for the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission in 2007. He passed away 10 years ago from kidney cancer. personalized round stickers

“But what I represent today is a family. And I wanted my family, the Reverend Antonio Christian, to be recognized for what he did in his lifetime,” said Debra Christian.

Boxes of clothing from the late reverend, all things many might take for granted, are necessities that can mean a great deal to someone without.

“And my goal today was to make a donation in his honor,” continued Christian, “And he was known as a good dresser. And he has all types of suits, boots and shoes.”

‘Rev,’ as he was known, was moved by scenes like these 10 years ago as groups of homeless people were forced to vacate the makeshift camp they called home.

His sister now carries on that mission, spreading the simple things and what’s most important.

“Upon his passing at his home going,” said Christian, “maybe 20 of the homeless people came up to speak, and they told how he saved their life, and not only their life, their soul.”
