Thermoformer Claims Highest Throughput per Square Foot

At NPE2024, WM Thermoforming Machines will preview a new thermoforming concept launching later this year.

Claiming the highest throughput per square foot on the thermoforming market,  Switzerland’s WM Thermoforming Machines will showcase its FC1000 IM2 at NPE2024.  Plastic Thermoforming Equipment

The company also will present the concept for its new FX1000 model, set for launch later this year, that will create “a new product category aiming to further enhance the features of maximum size and speed.”

At 130 tons, the FC1000 IM2 thermoformer features an engineered toggle-and-yoke compensation system that allows materials including PET, PP, PLA, and other biodegradables, including paperboard, to be run at high speed and cutting precision. By minimizing vibration, the machine reduces downtime and cutting-knife wear.

Improved software lets several users view all machine data simultaneously and features OPC UA protocol to connect with Industry 4.0 equipment. The software’s self-setting capability automatically calculates up to 90% of the machine’s optimal settings. Improved graphics include on-demand data requests. Exploded views, technical diagrams, and a troubleshooting manual are also available.

And now, WM’s inline thermoformers can be fitted with an optional visual inspection system from exclusive partner Ausil Systems. Using AI software, the system can detect product quality issues ranging from defective trays to punch and die-cutting flaws and even the presence of foreign objects.

Thermoformers can switch the IM2 between two modes of operation — forming with in-mold or separate trimming. This allows operators to divide precutting from contour cutting, or cut highly shrinkable materials like PP more accurately.

Additionally, WM’s three-axis robot — with up to 10 mode settings — handles a broad range of product designs and mold layouts.

In related news, WM Thermoforming Machines has announced a partnership, Integrated Forming Solutions (IFS), with Macdue Impianti, T2, and Ausil Systems. The collaboration provides customers in the packaging space with a synergistic platform providing thermoforming technology, quality inspection systems, and downstream equipment, said WM.

Visit WM Thermoforming Machines at booth W6181 during NPE2024 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL, from May 6 to 10.
