The VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association presents the annual global market data for the mobile robot sector.
According to the annual report "World Robotics - Service Robots" by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), almost 113,000 robots were sold for transport and logistics tasks in 2023. In cooperation with the IFR, the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association provides annual information on market growth in the mobile robots sector. agv for warehouse
Of the units sold, almost 80,300 are in the mobile robot segment, which transport materials indoors and outdoors and are used in production supply or warehouses, for example, as well as robots for loading and unloading lorries or pallets. Here alone, sales rose by 24% in 2023. Most devices came from Asia-Pacific (around 83%), followed by Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (around 10%) and North and South America (around 7%). "Automation or partial automation with robotics in transport and logistics is steadily increasing. The annual report clearly shows this. It provides a well-founded and detailed picture of the global market for mobile robots in particular," said Wolfgang Hillinger, chairman of the Mobile Robots Division of the Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association and managing director of DS Automotion GmbH. "We are experiencing a very dynamic market environment for mobile robots in intralogistics," said Sascha Schmel, managing director of VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association. "As a representative of the interests of around 50 manufacturers in this segment and as a network platform, we not only provide extensive expertise in technical regulations and standardization, but now also valid data on the world market." 80,300 mobile robots for intralogistics applications were sold worldwide in 2023, 24%25 more than in the previous year 2022. The annual report "World Robotics - Service Robots" thrives on active participation. Quantities are surveyed by application class on an annual basis. The effort for providers of mobile robotics is very manageable. In addition, those who register receive the statistics free of charge before publication.
Sales of professional service robots increased by 30% worldwide to more than 205,000 units in 2023. Nearly 80% of the robots came from the Asia-Pacific region with 162,284 units sold. Europe followed with 33,918 units and the Americas with 8,927 units sold. By application area, most units were sold in the transport and logistics sector (55%). This is followed by the hospitality industry with around 26%, agriculture with just under 10%, professional cleaning with just under 6% and medicine and healthcare with 3%. The market data in the World Robotics Service Robots Report is sample data. The data is not extrapolated to the entire industry. All figures from the World Robotics Service Robots 2024 annual report are based on a sample of 298 companies. The full annual report "World Robotics - Service Robots" contains–in addition to the data–a detailed analysis of service robotics in the respective application classes in collaboration with Fraunhofer IPA, a market assessment, expert interviews and a complete list of all service robot manufacturers known to the IFR. You can find out more about the structure and content of the report here. The current annual report can be obtained directly from the IFR.
The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) is a professional non-profit organisation founded in 1987 to promote, strengthen and protect the robotics industry worldwide.
