Thermore started using recycled fibres in the 1980s and describes itself as being the first company to launch recycled insulation.

It is now focused on sustainable innovation using post-consumer waste such as PET bottles and specialises in the research, development, production and marketing of high-quality thermal insulation for performance apparel.

In May 2023, Thermore introduced its ocean-bound raw fibre to reduce plastic waste. Ecodown Fibres Ocean is made entirely from ocean-bound raw materials, specifically sourced from PET bottles. It is environmentally friendly and contributes to the reduction of plastic waste in the ocean.

Thermore also announced that it had increased the recycled fibre content in its best-selling product, Thermore Classic. With the content now reaching 75%, Thermore said it continues to offer designers an ultra-versatile thermal insulation solution that aligns with their sustainability goals.

Thermore explained at the time that its long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability has driven it to implement significant measures to address the impact of its products on the planet.
