After the NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card was officially unveiled, everyone was amazed by its powerful performance. But after players got the graphics card, there were some hiccups, and there was a case of the RTX 4090 graphics card burning. Most of them use 4 pieces 8Pin or 3 pieces 8Pin to 16Pin adapter cables. Fires may occur due to overheating, but there is no problem with the GPU itself.

The RTX 4090 graphics card uses a new power supply interface: 12VHPWR, full name: 12V High Power Connector, which is a high-power power interface. This interface is used in future PCIe 5.0 graphics cards and can carry 600W power consumption. The peak power consumption carrying capacity reaches 1800W, which can last for at least 100 microseconds, which is three times more than the previous power supply port standard. And only one native 16Pin power supply line is needed to power the RTX 4090.

Released together with the RTX 4090 graphics card, there is also a new ATX 3.0 power supply, equipped with a 12VHPWR interface and providing a 16Pin power supply cable. However, in order to make the old power supply compatible, the solution given by NVIDIA is to come with a 4-pin 8-pin, or 3-pin 8-pin to 16-pin adapter cable, which may be the main reason for the accident.

Therefore, if you buy such an expensive graphics card at this stage, you must be careful when choosing a power supply. It is recommended to choose an ATX 3.0 power supply.

The new ATX 3.0 power supply is launched to solve instantaneous peak power demands. Under the new ATX3.0 specification, the output capability of the power supply must be 120% of the rated power output for 100, 160% of the rated power output for 10ms, 180% of the rated power output for 1ms, and 200% of the rated power output for 100μs. A power supply that complies with the new ATX3.0 standard with a rated power of 1000W can have a peak output power of up to 2000W (200%), solving the problem of the power supply being blown by the graphics card in the ATX2.x era.

Most importantly, the ATX 3.0 power supply also adds a 12VHPWR interface and provides native 16Pin power supply cables, eliminating the need for users to use four 8Pin or three 8Pin adapter cables, reducing the risk of being burned.

There are not many ATX 3.0 power supplies currently on sale, and they are basically produced by major manufacturers. ASUS ROG Thor II is the first batch to pass Intel’s Lambda++ certification in ATX 3.0. Currently, ASUS ROG Thor II provides three rated powers of 1000W, 1200W, and 1600W. Among them, 1000W and 1200W are more suitable for RTX 4090 high-end platform construction.

Taking ROG Thor II 1000W as an example, it provides a native 12VHPWR interface and 16Pin power supply line, saying goodbye to conversion lines and eliminating safety hazards. The rated power is 1000W, supports single +12V output, and the current is up to 83A. There is no problem in powering flagship platforms such as RTX 4090+i9-13900K.

The ROG Thor II 1000W power supply has top-notch workmanship and materials. It has passed the 80Plus platinum certification, which is the current ceiling for power supply certification. The conversion efficiency is much higher than that of gold medal power supplies.

ROG Thor II 1000W power supply adopts 105℃ all-Japanese industrial-grade high-performance capacitors, which have higher efficiency and longer service life. The design of the LLC topology circuit and double DC conversion greatly reduces coil noise, making it quieter and more efficient.

The ROG Thor II ATX3.0 power supply has a built-in OLED display, allowing users to easily adjust the system to achieve better performance and efficiency. Supports AURA SYNC, which can be used with other devices to create cool lighting effects. In terms of after-sales service, the ROG Thor II ATX 3.0 power supply also provides a ten-year warranty. This also shows the high quality of this high-end power supply, giving players no worries.
