It seems the greatest search everyone is on is finding the best wide calf boots. As a Miami native, I've never actually had to search for the best boots for wide calves. I spent most of my days in flip-flops, sandals, and open-toed heels. However, after moving to New York City and experiencing the freezing temperatures, I quickly learned that cute winter boots were going to be a shoe wardrobe staple. That is why I've rounded up a list of the best wide calf boots that are comfy to wear, stylish, and, most importantly, affordable (with a few splurges here and there because sometimes we need to treat ourselves). lace up flats
Whether it's a block heel, ankle boots or a simple (and my personal favorite) western wide calf boot, you'll find several options that'll work great for all my fellow size 11 (or any size), large-calved folks. And while you might not have wondered about my lore, I come with a story to tell. I have weak ankles. I’ve sprained my ankle two Novembers in a row, so when on the hunt for wide calf boots, I am also thinking about how comfortable they are, if they’re stable, and if there’s a chance you’ll slip and fall because the boots have no grip. You can trust that I took my time in finding the perfect pair of boots. Heel height, calf width, and popularity are also things I’ve taken into account as well. Looking for a certain material? I've included a wide range, including suede, faux leather, and rubber. Prefer a certain closure? I've listed out picks with pull-on tabs, zippers, buckles, drawstrings, and more!
Below, find the best wide calf boots on the market, tried by yours truly, that you can enjoy during the winter season (and well beyond).
Dolce Vita is one of my go to brands for wide calf boots. They have such a wide range of options to choose from when looking for a good pair to own. I’m not a huge fan of a full side zipper, especially when trying on a wide calf knee high boot, but these actually fit great around the calf, so there will be no snagging to your skin.
Western wear is all the rage, especially when it comes to a good bootie or boot. This black leather western wide calf boot is the perfect option when you’re feeling a little country, but want to keep it subtle. The fit for me personally was a bit snug, but these were stretchy enough that I didn’t have any real problems putting them on.
The Ryatt Extra Wide Calf Boots to me have best seller potential. I cannot get enough of them. So much so, I already started planning out several outfits to wear with them. I love a good cowboy boot, especially when its a tad bit flashy. They’re also extremely comfortable and easy to put on, which is always ideal when finding a solid wide calf boot. They don’t have a zipper, so you’ll be tugging on the edges, but outside of that they’re a great pair. They’re also super comfortable and true to size.
While the silver pair will definitely serve as a statement shoe, the black version is a worthwhile choice when picking out a pair of boots.
These boots are great for those looking for a structural pair of shoes. While the fit on my calf was a bit tight, they still worked well. So, if you're looking for a more form-fitting boot for an outfit, this is the right choice.
There is nothing I love more than a statement boot and this snake skin pair is perfect. It's fit is pretty wide and can be worn under or over a pair of boyfriend jeans, which is always ideal for my day-to-day. The heel is rather comfy too, which is perfect if you have plans to wear them all day long.
Riding boots are one of the trending styles all over the internet. This pair is a great addition to your closet. The calf fit is solid, I had about a half inch of space around the largest part of my leg.
This pink pair of boots from DSW has become one of my favorite wide calf boots options. I will say the fit is a bit more snug than I'd like, but they are so stylish I have worn them already so many times.
You always need a good knee-high boot in your rolodex and this pair from Madewell made the cut. It has great stretch and was very spacious at the toe.
Vince Camuto is another go-to brand for wide calf anything. This brown pair is not only cute but also very comfortable.
Another great choice from Vince Camuto when shopping for a stylish boot option. The stretch on this pair is definitely a 3.5 out of 5 but they still fit great.
The Gibi Extra Wide Calf Boot is perfect when looking for a little bit more room in the calf area on a form-fitting shoe. This pair was my ideal shoe comfort-wise.
If you're looking for a chic boot then look no further. This pair from Sam Edelman not only fit great but will get you so many compliments.
Western wear continues to trend and these Sam Edelman boots are a great addition to your collection. Their fit is on the tighter side, which is expected with Western boots, but they're still a great pair to have.
Inez is one of my favorite brands that isn't always on everyone's radar. They have really great fitting boots that don't cause you pain. A perfect type of heel for a long day.
Asos is another brand you wouldn't necessarily think about when looking for shoes, but their wide fit options get the job done.
These printed boots are a fan favorite. I will admit I am not the best with real heels, so this stiletto heel was a bit trying for me, but overall these boots are a great pair to have when you want to elevate your look.
Franco Sarto always holds it down with a wide calf boot. This pair is similar to a riding boot and is a bit more structured. They also fit great and work well with just about anything.
Sometimes you don't want to commit to a full boot and this is where these mid-calf boots come in. They're a great fit and aren't too tight around the lower calf.
Amazon has a lot of great boot options to choose from. This specific pair was rather tight on the calf, I struggled a bit to get it all the way on.
This riding boot from Amazon is a great affordable pair to choose. It's fit was a 4 out of 5. It also had a great snug fit around your foot.
These boots from Free People are a great choice when you're feeling a cowboy vibe but aren't ready to fully commit.
Boot Barn has become one of my favorite shoe spots. As a Southern girl through and through these boots have been worn several times already. Their fit around the calf is great. I also love a square toe, so these are perfect and fit great on my flat feet.
This other pair from Boot Barn is a top choice for me as well. It's stylish and actually very comfortable for a real deal cowboy boot. The only thing to be mindful of us the bottom of the shoe is a bit slippery at first. But its nothing a few wears can't lessen.
Tecovas is another popular Western boot brand that we can't get enough of. The Annie boot has a great fit and isn't tight around the calves at all. It's a shoe you can wear every day, which is absolutely ideal.
When in doubt Doc it out. Finding a solid pair of Dr. Martens that fit your lower calf can sometimes be a mission. This pair not only adds an extra boost of height but isn't too snug on the actual leg.
