The 1986-established US company 3D Systems is trying to cater to the growing demand of the 3D printed jewelry market by introducing a new wax 3D printing system – the MJP 300W 3D printer and VisiJet® Wax Jewel Ruby printing material respectively .
The global 3D printed jewelry market will cross the $22 billion mark by 2030 and the new 3D printing solutions will help the company speed up. Dental Implant Model
While the MJP 300W 3D jewelry printer enhances production speed along with maintaining surface finish and reliability, VisiJet® Wax Jewel Ruby ensures the finest details in the 3D printed parts like intricate patterns and stones presetting are done accurately and efficiently.
The South Carolina-based Additive Manufacturing company seeks to enhance its end-to-end solutions for jewelry manufacturing through these new additions. The MJP 300W is known to be the most advanced and flexible wax 3D printer that improves the quality and design freedom of jewelry manufacturing. VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby on the other hand is a temperature stable pure wax material that provides good dimensional stability at high temperatures and also makes way for flexible material properties.
With this combination of 3D printing platform and materials, 3D systems aims to enable its customers to achieve high-volume custom-made jewelry manufacturing with greater design freedom and improved surface finish. The package will ensure that the most intricate jewelry designs are perfectly executed during the molding process, preventing any distortion or breakage in the final 3D-printed jewelry.
According to Contrive Datum Insights data, 3D printing usage in jewelry manufacturing will be growing at an exponential rate in this decade, jumping from $8 billion in 2022 to $ 22 billion in 2030. This boom is due to the high efficiency and precision of 3D-printed parts that make production of unique patterns possible. With 3D jewelry printing, jewelry makers can achieve mass customization in record time and meet the specific needs of the customers.
3D Systems has an extensive wax material portfolio along with a range of 3D printing technology at its disposal. Hence the company is well positioned to exploit this boom in the jewelry manufacturing sector with new acquisitions.
The MJP 300W 3D printer had two new print modes – QHD and UHD which enables surface finishing of complex designs. The QHD mode of the 3D printer improves resolution by over 50% in all axes (i.e., 2,000 dpi in X, 1,800 dpi in Y, 2,900 dpi in Z). Also, it ensures 9.5 µm layer thickness. Both these features were unavailable in the previous generation of the wax 3D printer.
The UHD mode has 2x faster print speed than XHD mode on the ProJet® MJP 2500W Plus that 3D Systems used earlier. With this, the finishing and the polishing of jewelry becomes less labor intensive and the throughput increases significantly.
With the availability of four printing modes – QHD, UHD, XHD, ZHD the company can improve the flexibility of production by planning to work on both day and night shifts which is essential for matching the level of speed, geometric complexity, and surface quality required by all design styles.
“Additionally, the material is best suited for pre-setting stones, which is helping our customers improve efficiencies when creating pieces with intricate details”, said Kumar.
Speaking about the new additions, Marty Johnson, the vice president of 3D Systems said: “With the introduction of the MJP 300W and our new VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby material, we are providing producers of wax jewelry casting patterns with enhanced capabilities to improve productivity and processes that ensure reliability. 3D Systems’ full system integration of the materials, printer, print process, and software which is strengthened by our application expertise and global customer success team is enabling our jewelry manufacturing customers to achieve new levels of innovation, quality, and reliability. The latest additions to our end-to-end solutions for jewelry manufacturing reinforce our commitment to addressing our customers’ needs to gain unprecedented levels of agility with ease of use that ensures high-quality results at any scale”.
3D Systems’ VisiJet Wax Jewel Ruby complements its available wax materials — VisiJet Wax Jewel Red and VisiJet M2 Cast — which can be used in conjunction with the MJP 300W.
Both the new additions will be available from November 2023 and interested people can catch them at 3D System’s partner, Luka Teknik Malzeme Pazarlama Ltd.’s booth (1F30) at the Istanbul Jewelry Show.
