Extrusion cutting and downstream equipment manufacturer Gillard (Tewkesbury, UK) has introduced a circular blade cutter designed to cut stainless-steel-wire-braided PTFE and rubber hose. The new Braid-Cut HD machine can handle hose with outer diameters up to 50 mm.  Food Grade Suction &Discharge Hose

Wire-braided hoses are typically used for high-pressure hydraulic applications in the automotive and aeronautical industries. Cut-end quality is very important, said Gillard in a press release. The hose end is typically terminated with a ferrule clamping cap, and any loose wire obstructs the ferrule and can create a potential leak issue.

The Braid-Cut machine cuts through the wire-braided hose cleanly thanks to an integral welding head, which fuses the wire ends together. Tungsten-copper alloy electrode jaws clamp the hose while a high-speed circular blade cuts through.

The system eliminates wire flare and loose ends, according to Gillard. The company adds that the ferrules or clamping caps can be easily pushed onto the cut ends without snagging.

The Braid‐Cut HD machine is equipped with a PLC to ensure total synchronization between the welding and cutting operations.

Motorized pay-off systems are available to ensure efficient off-line cutting from coils. Gillard can also integrate ink-jet printers for marking the cut lengths of hose.
