A man will spend up to 51 years in prison — the maximum sentence — for murdering his mother and stealing his father’s car in May 2021 outside Eaton.

Gabriel Faudoa, 34, was sentenced to 48 years for the murder and three years for aggravated motor vehicle theft related to the case, according to a release from the Weld County District Attorney’s Office. He will serve the two sentences consecutively.

“This is not merely a case about drug abuse or making an isolated poor decision,” Deputy District Attorney Travis Winter said at the sentencing. “This is a case of evil, pure and simple.”

Faudoa stabbed his mother, June, 54 times on the morning of May 11, 2021, in her home on Wall Street outside Eaton.

She was found lying face-up with multiple cuts and knife wounds to her torso and neck. Records show she also had multiple stab wounds to her hands and arms and that her neck had been cut to the bone.

A Weld deputy also noticed some wounds appeared not to have bled, indicating they were inflicted after death.

Following the murder, Faudoa stole his father’s Chevrolet Impala and fled the scene. Police arrested him less than two hours later after spotting him walking back toward the crime scene.

When speaking with police, Faudoa asked who died without detectives ever mentioning it was a homicide investigation, according to police.

At his trial, Faudoa argued he was suffering from methamphetamine-induced psychosis during the murder. A jury convicted him of both murder and motor vehicle theft in November 2022.
