PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Pawtucket firefighters have knocked down a fire that broke out Monday inside an autobody shop on Mineral Spring Avenue.

Battalion Chief Dave Cairrao told 12 News that crews were called to Ocean State Collision Center around 11:20 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the garage.

The fire started inside a spray booth where vehicles and auto parts are painted, according to Cairrao. He said firefighters initially had trouble due to the amount of smoke and heat, but were eventually able to put out the fire.

No injuries were reported. Cairrao said there were a few employees inside the building when the fire started, but they were able to get out safely.

Cairrao also said some equipment may have been damaged.

“Right now, it just seems the building is OK, it’s just the spray booth that’s in the basement has been compromised by the fire,” he said.

Crews are now ventilating the building and looking for the cause of the fire.
