The actor made his breakthrough in the fantasy films from 2008-2012 and has gone on to star in big blockbusters including Christopher Nolan‘s Tenet and a huge lead role as the caped crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
In a new interview with the New York Times he recalled earlier this year, how he took a trip to the Caribbean and at passport control, the immigration officer said to him, “Hey, you’re the guy from Twilight. Why’d you stop acting?”
Pattinson said he wasn’t sure how to respond adding: “I was like …, ‘I’m Batman?’. She just laughed.”

The Batman II is set to begin filming next year, Reeves recently confirmed. He added that the sequel is “going to dig into the epic story about deeper corruption, and it goes into places that he couldn’t anticipate in the first one. The seeds of where this goes are all in the first movie, and it expands in a way that will show you aspects of the character you never got to see.”
The Batman II was originally scheduled for an October 2025 release, but delays reportedly caused by last year’s SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes have meant that the movie won’t be hitting screens until October 2 2026, pushing its release back a whole year.
Speaking about the movies, which will eventually end with a third film, Pattinson has now said: “I could genuinely be retiring by the end of them. Not in a million years did I think I’d still be doing this when I got my first job. I can’t believe this is still going.”
Elsewhere, Pattinson is reuniting with Christopher Nolan for his next movie.
The as-yet-untitled film is expected to be released in July 2026, with Matt Damon currently set to star in the lead role alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway and Lupita Nyong’o. Damon portrayed General Leslie Groves in Nolan’s most recent film, Oppenheimer, alongside Cillian Murphy.
Pattinson will next star in the upcoming Bong Joon-ho-directed sci-fi black comedy film Mickey 17.
The movie was recently delayed by three months, moving from its January 31 release to April 18, 2025.
