Apple will host its iPad Pro event next month where it will finally announce the new OLED iPad Pro and iPad Air models after various delays. Recently, we covered that the new iPad Air model will feature a mini-LED panel. The latest information suggests that this will not be the case, and the rumored 12.9-inch model of the iPad Air will come with an LCD panel.
The LCD display on the current iPad Air is pretty great, but it can not match the brightness and color accuracy of the mini-LED panel. The new 'Air' model would have been a solid upgrade if Apple decided to incorporate the leftover panels of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Now, we are expecting both 'Air' models to ship with an LCD screen. The mini-LED display is quite an upgrade compared to standard LCD displays as it brings major benefits to the table. However, Apple is done with the mini-LED panels on the iPad Pro and is transitioning to OLED displays, which will come with unmatched image quality. Apple will utilize the leftover panels from the iPad Pro differently than expected.
The previous details were also shared by Ross Young but updated information coins that the company could have different plans for the remaining 12.9-inch display panels. According to the analyst, the mini-LED panel costs are high, and it would not make sense for the company to offer them on comparatively budget iPads. If Apple did go ahead with the plans, the mini-LED display would have minimized the difference between the iPad Pro and the iPad Air lineup.
In a post shared to his subscribers on X, Young claims that the company could introduce a new model of the iPad with a mini-LED display. The rumored iPad will rest between the iPad Air and the iPad Pro lineup, considering it comes with an upgraded display. The mysterious model is expected to launch by the end of this year after the iPhone 16 launch, which is not too far off. From what we know, it could be a device with 'Pro' features but only slightly more expensive than the 'Air' lineup.
We are expecting the company to announce the new iPad Air and iPad Pro lineup at its 'Let Loose' event on May 7. The 'Pro' models will bring major design changes to the lineup, including a bigger display and a redesigned chassis. We will be covering the event extensively, so be sure to stick around for intricate details on the devices. Do you think Apple will launch additional hardware at its event next month?
