STAVANGER, Norway – Wellbore construction/completions specialist Marwell has installed a tailored solution to replace centralizer subs for a major IOC in the Norwegian North Sea, in partnership with Maxwell Oil Tools.
A 17-in. liner was needed to run through a 17.562-in. ID wellhead restriction in order to centralize the string sufficiently in the under-reamed 20-in. open hole. Weld On Centralizer
Marwell worked with Maxwell and the operator to design a slim stop collar with high holding force, using the Slimstop bonded composite stop collar.
The application was on a well in a chalk formation at a mature field. To achieve the cementing objectives, the stop collars were run with a third-party supplied bow spring-type centralizer to deliver the required standoff in the hole.
Cable Protection For Manifolds The ensuing close tolerance stop collar application was independently verified as robust, allowing running of the 17-in. liner through the wellhead restriction and cementing it as planned.
