With news on baler installations and other developments involving Jarshire, Harris, IPS, Ken Mills, Cumbria Waste Services and Caparo Fairbright
Following the acquisitions last year of Harris Waste Management Group and IPS Balers by Avis Industrial Corporation, it has been announced that the environmental & recycling division of Jarshire Limited will become exclusive distributor for both companies in the UK and Ireland. Rebar Tie Wire
Jarshire has represented IPS in this territory since 2005. Harris’ own UK-based parts and service operation will assume responsibility for the after-sales care of both lines, while long-standing former distributor, John Scholefield of Eurobalers Ltd, will act as Jarshire’s consultant for the Harris range.
Harris UK and Jarshire are working together to expand the former’s parts stock-holding and to develop service coverage to cater for all their customers’ needs.
Jarshire director, Nick Jobson said: “Bringing together Harris and IPS will create a business with extensive knowledge and a wealth of experience in the supply of size reduction equipment to the waste, recovered paper and metal recycling industries. Together with Harris/IPS, we look forward to playing our part in developing an efficient and dependable sales and after-sales organisation.”
Harris UK general manager and Harris RSM for Europe, Peter Coates added: “Harris is delighted to be able to work with Jarshire and to give them the opportunity to build on their success over the last 10 years. Also, we wish to thank John Scholefield of Eurobalers for all his work for Harris since first joining the company in the 1970s. Jointly, Harris/IPS have over 100 two-ram balers in the UK and Ireland, baling a variety of materials including plastics, N/F metals, RDF, paper and board. Through Jarshire, they also offer an extensive range of open- and closed-end horizontal balers, as well as balers, shears and shredders for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Ken Mills Engineering has just recently commissioned a twin ram baler for the world’s premier petroleum and petrochemical company ExxonMobil in its central African operation.
The machine has been purchased to handle the recyclable materials being generated in oilfield and pipeline transportation operations which transport crude oil from Chad to Cameroon; materials generated include card, polythene, paper etc. The Aries twin ram baler was selected for its “robust compact design, high throughput capacity and high density bales”. The fully automatic unit is capable of handling up to 10 TPH.
The machine is designed and manufactured by British-based Ken Mills and, says the company, “its simple but effective construction it is the ideal machine for an operation so remote within Africa, the unit is to be serviced and maintained by their team of onsite service engineers”.
Caparo Fairbright (previously known as Caparo Wire – Fairbright Works) has recently launched a new website, at www.caparofairbrightwire.com.
The site, said the company, is focused on providing customers information about the business’ wide range of wires (including baling, cold heading and engineering wire as well as Quiklink bale ties and brick guards), and supporting services.
Caparo Fairbright, explained that it is a well-established manufacturer and supplier of steel wire, specialising particularly in the production of wires for baling in recycling, packaging and waste management.
The company, based out of West Bromwich in the West Midlands, delivers both galvanised and black annealed wire suitable for the manual and machine baling of waste paper, cardboard, textiles and other household and industrial materials. The products can be provided in various sizes, ranges and coil weights, in four different formats – coils or formers, rewound coils, cut and loop and annealed straight lengths.
The business also produces engineering wire which is bright hard drawn from rod to a variety of specifications; Quiklink bale ties, used internationally for the baling of cotton, synthetic fibres, textiles, tyres, plastics and heavy duty cardboard; and high quality brick guards from superior strength steel mesh for the construction industry.

Cumbria Waste Group (CWG) is investing more than £500,000 to build a new waste baling facility at its Hespin Wood site, near Carlisle.
The waste baler, being supplied by Ken Mills, will compact recyclables such as cardboard, plastics and cans, making them easier to store and transport. As well as reducing waste disposal costs for its customers, it will also mean CWG can generate extra income for customers through the sale of this material on the recycling markets, the company explained.
The baler, which can process six tonnes of waste per hour, will compact material collected from doorstep collection rounds, bring sites and commercial contracts and processed by CWG’s £1.25 million materials recycling facility, which opened last year.
Mike Bareham, Cumbria Waste Group managing director, said: “We are continually seeking new ways to improve the recycling process and through investment in new technology like this we are not only saving our customers money, we are also helping them to meet their environmental responsibilities as well.
“The baler produces highly compacted, clean bales of waste material, such as cardboard and plastics, which can then be sold on the recycling markets and, in some cases, provide a customers with a rebate on their waste.”
