BuiltRight Industries, the manufacturer behind the versatile and problem-solving Bedside Rack System, has a fascinating video series on its YouTube channel. One of the videos that caught our eye is an inside look at the work involved in creating a Bedside Rack System for the 2023-up Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon. The video is hosted by BuiltRight founder Matt Beenen. It offers a behind the scenes look at what’s required to take the MOLLE panels from one-off prototype to a production-ready system. It’s a candid overview of the goals, challenges, and technology involved in creating a Bedside Rack System for the Colorado/Canyon. Aluminium Tube Bending

BuiltRight’s Original Riser Mounts are ideal for mounting two implements like an axe, jack handle, or shovel. Super Clamp Riser Mounts work great for things like a recovery strap, tie-down straps, fire extinguisher, and so on.

BuiltRight’s Bedside Rack System allows you to organize your gear and fasten it in place, so it isn’t a hazard. The Bedside Rack System is a MOLLE panel design. MOLLE is the acronym for modular lightweight load-carrying equipment. This system, which has military roots, is used in a wide range of items. Unlike some imitation products, the BuiltRight “Block and Slot” pattern is the real deal. It offers slotted features, designed for use with common 1/4-inch mounting hardware in addition to correct mil-spec MOLLE/PALS features. Additionally, the BuiltRight MOLLE Nuts (sold separately) offer an additional mounting location with a 1/4-20 threaded hole for easy installation.

Strength and a perfect fit are some of the key features of BuiltRights’s Bedside Rack System. Each Bedside Rack Panel is manufactured using high-grade 1/8-inch-thick steel plate. The steel plate is CNC cut and formed for a perfect fit. Additionally, parts are tested rigorously utilizing finite element analysis. Furthermore, the parts undergo real-world testing in diverse environments including Baja, ranches, and job sites nationwide. Also, they’re durability tested on the challenging icy and salty roads spanning from the Midwest to the Northeast.

BuiltRight’s Bedside Rack System panels are finished with black powdercoat for durability and a high-grade look and feel. Each system includes a full set of panels along with the most used attachments. The company’s Original Riser Mounts are ideal for mounting two implements like an axe, jack handle, or shovel. Super Clamp Riser Mounts work great for things like a recovery strap, tie-down straps, fire extinguisher, and so on. Additionally, the MOLLE nuts ensure that installation and configuration isn’t a headache.

The video is hosted by BuiltRight founder Matt Beenen. Beenen has always been fascinated by cars. He also has a desire to design and engineer modern solutions to common problems.

Of course, BuiltRight’s Bedside Rack Systems are available for a wide range of vehicles. The company offers versions for trucks and SUVs within the Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Ram, Rivian, Tesla, and Toyota brands. Many of the kits are offered in Stage 1, Stage 2, and Pro forms, and each include specific equipment. You can also piece together your own kit using individual panels and attachments.

It is important to note that in many cases bedside racks aren’t compatible with drop-in bedliners. This is because oftentimes the liners don’t follow the contours of the bed closely enough to ensure proper fitment of the Bedside Rack System.
