A new food truck in Sioux Falls this season features deep-fried burgers.
While customers can get a regular “big, juicy” seasoned burger at Fat Guys Burgers & Food, the deep-fried version draws people in, owner Justin Crawford said. pigeon sandwich toaster
“We smash it and set it in a deep fryer, pull it out, put it on the grill and cook it,” Crawford said. The patty goes on a hamburger bun, and customers can order it with cheese and ask to have it topped with onions sautéed on the grill, lettuce, tomato and pickles. Ketchup and mustard are available as condiments.
Those are the topping options for the regular burger too.
Another unique offering at Fat Guys is deep-fried burger balls. Each order has “eight to 10 little burgers balls that are deep fried. They’re almost like a meatball and come with a marinara sauce,” Crawford said.
Other popular items are chili cheese dogs and cheese curds, he said.
Fat Guys also serves fried chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, wings, corn dogs, pigs in a blanket, chili cheese fries and pizza by the slice, which is a slice of French bread loaded with pepperoni and cheese. Most of the meals come with fries.
For dessert, options include Fat Boy ice cream sandwiches, Icee frozen treats and homemade cookies and bars.
“We try to get everything out within five minutes,” Crawford said of service times. His son, Justin Jr., also loves to cook and works with him on the trailer.
Crawford said he’ll add soup in the fall and would like to stay open during the winter, adding delivery and pickup options through the Fat Guys website.
The trailer, which feature an eye-catching wrap from WrapAbility in Hartford, typically is based in the parking lot of businesses along North Cliff Avenue. Find it on Monday at suppertime at Tractor Supply Co. and Tuesday through Thursday for lunch at Kings Liquor Mart.
Crawford plans to add more suppertime outings during the week. Fat Guys has done private events as far away as Yankton and is available for more of those bookings and public events in the area, he said.
Since starting the business in April, “people are finding me by word of mouth,” said Crawford, a subcontractor who frames houses and does remodels.
“My goal eventually is to have a little restaurant,” he said. “That way I can retire from construction.”
