14 Best Silk Pajamas, Sleep Sets & Robes, Tested by Editors 2024 | Glamour

By Paula Lee , Brigitt Earley , and Malia Griggs

It doesn’t have to be a special occasion to treat yourself (or someone you love) to the best silk pajamas. Sure, there’s a place for lounge sets in your closet, but premium silk truly levels up your sleepwear. The fabric glides against the skin, drapes beautifully, and gives off a shimmery, pearl-like luster worthy of a duchess. Plus, it’s naturally temperature-regulating—keeping you cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. The opulence and comfort alone make silk pajamas (plus silk pillowcases) amazing self-care gifts or elevated gifts for women (not to mention Mother's Day gift for the mom who deserves spoiling).

Glamour editors and writers tested and reviewed dozens of different PJ sets from different brands to bring you the best silk pajamas—tough job, we know. As a note: Silk tends to run higher in cost than cotton, so we've included satin pajamas as well, which mimic the smoothness at more moderate price points.

Lunya is best known for its luxe machine-washable silk sleepwear and loungewear, a great innovation for those of us who are a little more lax about our delicates—the brand suggests washing it inside out on a cold water cycle and laying it flat to air-dry. With gorgeous silhouettes like these high-waist, wide-leg pajama pants with side slits (for a little ventilation) and the relaxed short-sleeve top, it’s no wonder this set is so popular.

“The top is so comfortable and has a nice high-low hem (that’s fit for my baby bump!), and I don’t even want to wear a bra under it because why would I deprive my boobs of the silky soft material? I even fall asleep in it, which is something that never happens since I usually get night sweats,” says Allure shopping director Shanna Shipin. But if you have your sights set on one of the brand's many other styles? Numerous Glamour editors have tried Lunya PJs over the years and endorse various silhouettes, including this tank and this T-shirt option.

This is another favorite of our editors’. A decadent take on its best-selling jersey Gisele set, this high-quality washable silk set is made from 100% hypoallergenic silk and rendered in a very flattering cut. Glamour senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle adores these PJs’ slinky feel: “I already use silk pillowcases, so I didn’t think I would be that impressed with silk pajamas, but wow, this is the real deal. I put these on and immediately felt like I had my life together. The silk has a suedelike finish that feels very velvety soft, and it seems very well-constructed, with no loose seams or strings. Similar to other silk pajamas, you’ll notice some wrinkles, but it’s not as noticeable as others I’ve owned.” As for the price—Calle advises adding it to you birthday wishlist. “You can even customize it with a monogram like I did for an extra $15,” she says. Real estate agent Ashley Tucker is equally obsessed. “They're so comfy, come in so many patterns and colors, and always make me feel chic and pulled together—the perfect PJs,” she says. The best part? They’re completely washable.

“I love these pajamas because they feel luxurious on, have a flattering and comfortable fit, and hold up well with time,” says Glamour reviewer Isabelle Halpern of her Victoria’s Secret jammies, which have an oversized fit. “Though they’re not silk, the satin is super soft, easy to care for, and feels lightweight on. I think a matching satin pajama set is a little luxury that makes every night feel special.” She’s owned the PJs in blue for three years—and liked them so much she bought more.

Material: 100% polyester | Size range: XS–XXL | Momme: N/A | Colors: 15 options | Care instructions: Machine-wash | Features: Available in short, regular, and long sizing; drawstring waist; side pockets; chest pocket; piping | Price: $$

Come for the price, stay for the quality. Quince’s silks are popular not just because of the accessible price for pure silk, but because they’re lightweight, breathable, and feel like second skin. “As the owner of a few silk pieces from the brand, I can vouch for the quality. I also love the velvet-like finish that isn’t too shiny. It has the perfect slouch and a curved hem in the back for shape,” says Glamour contributor Paula Lee. Swap your old college T-shirt for this washable silk version and coordinating bottoms (take your pick: shorts or side-slit pants).

Material: 100% mulberry silk | Size range: XS–XL | Momme: 19mm | Colors: 7 options | Care instructions: Hand- wash or machine-wash cold and inside out in garment bag; line dry | Features: Machine-washable, chemical-free dyes, Oeko-Tex certified against harmful chemicals | Price: $$

Keep it simple and sophisticated in this matching set. Nordstrom’s in-house label offers reliable, quality closet staples, and these 100% washable silk pajamas don’t disappoint. The long-sleeve button-up top has a slimmer feminine fit, while the drawstring pants feature subtle draped pleating down the front.

“I’m a fan of the detailing on these PJs,” says Glamour commerce editor Malia Griggs. “A lot of others I tried had a rough cut to them, but the top and bottoms of these were finished with trim along the cuffs and hems, and had buttons covered in silk, so they blended in with the rest of the material. Those tiny touches set the pajamas apart. I also appreciated that the fit was a bit looser, and that I could adjust the fit of the pants to not squeeze my stomach—my least favorite part of any pajamas.” The Fishers Finery sleepwear comes with a complementary mesh bag to keep them from snagging in the wash.

Material: 100% mulberry silk | Size range: XS–XL | Momme: 19mm | Colors: 8 options | Care instructions: Hand-wash, or machine-wash cold in garment bag on delicate cycle; machine-dry on air-only or delicate low-heat cycle | Features: Petite sizing available, drawstring waist | Price: $$$

A little silk camisole is always good to keep tucked in the top drawer. When paired with its matching shorts, it makes for a great pajama option for hot sleepers. “I am a big fan of the silk short sets from Intimissimi,” says Sarah Ayres, account manager at jewelry brand Sequin. “Since I’m basically a heat-generating furnace when I sleep, their thermo-regulating properties help keep me cool. I also like that they have touches of lace that make them feminine but not overly frilly.” The lingerie set is a nice option for summer, and it's versatile too. Throw on shorts and a jean jacket over the cami, and you’re good to leave the house.

Another tested and approved brand for premium silk is LilySilk. The collection is constructed with high-quality mulberry silk, and the designs are always modern and trend-forward, as with this minimalist set that celebrity stylist assistant Ashley Afriyie stands by. “The silk material is gentle on my skin and reduces wrinkles when I wake up,” she says. “You can wear them to bed or out in public when styled with the right accessories—I always appreciate a versatile outfit, and this set definitely delivers! In addition, they feel like butter on, and I never feel overheated when going to bed, which can be the case with PJ sets in general.” We love this set’s soft white colorways and the way its cropped top would look chic paired with jeans outside the bedroom, too. It's an elegant wedding gift for the bride-to-be (just be sure to go in on it with your friends, as it is a tad pricey).

Material: 100% mulberry silk | Size range: XS–XL | Momme: 22mm | Colors: options | Care instructions: Hand-wash cold, line dry; or dry clean | Features: Hook-and-eye front closure, drawstring pants, pockets, monogrammable | Price: $$$

It may come as little surprise that Oprah’s favorite brand of PJs makes a super-luxe silk version for those who swear by the material. Our Glamour tester says she loves the relaxed boxer fit of Cozy Earth’s shorts—it’s airy enough for summer weather, as well as how she can cinch them to fit with a drawstring waist. Elegant details like inner French seams and decorative piping are fit for a queen. You can, of course, throw on a beloved tee over the shorts for a mix-and-match styling—or add a short-sleeve or long-sleeve top to complete the look.

If you gravitate toward prints, Petite Plume offers both classics like stripes and more whimsical ones like this panther pattern. “These pajamas are made of a pure mulberry silk that has a subtle sheen and feels more substantial than others I tried," said Glamour reviewer Paula Lee. “The elegant design would be right at home at a grown-up pajama party (which I should throw).” The set’s 22-momme material has some of the highest density on this list, and you can feel the quality in the gentle lightness of the material.

In addition to its cult-favorite PJs, Lunya makes a robe that is the ideal Mother's Day gift—hell, gift for any woman, really. It’s elegant, flows like water against the skin, and is such a stylish, old-Hollywood-vibes upgrade. She’ll wear it while she pats serum into her skin or cozies up with a book (and look damn good). Our readers love it, as do our writers. “The second you cocoon yourself in this ridiculously soft, ultraluxurious silk, you’ll understand why they’re so expensive. Washing is much easier than I anticipated, though I definitely recommend putting the silk in a mesh bag so it doesn’t snag,” says Glamour contributor Lindsay Schallon. Lunya makes a full-length robe too.

Material: 100% mulberry silk | Size range: XS/S–L/XL | Momme: Not listed | Colors: 9 options | Care instructions: Hand-wash or machine-wash cold | Features: Machine-washable, removable belt, pockets, interior tie | Price: $$$

Is this pair pure silk? No, but it sure does look and feel a lot like the real deal. The polyester and spandex blend expertly mimics real silk (“I can’t tell the difference,” one tester told us.) The bright Barbie pink is spot on for the season too. What we really love, though, are the pretty piping details, a trio of pockets (two in the shorts and one on the chest of the shirt), and a drawstring waist to nail the fit. Another big draw? Unlike others on the list, this set comes in generous plus sizing.

Material: 92% Polyester, 8% Spandex | Size range: XXS–4X | Momme: N/A | Colors: 3 options | Care instructions: Machine-wash cold, tumble-dry low | Features: Plus sizing, piping details, chest pocket, drawstring waist | Price: $

How pretty is this silky button-up set? Its slouchy fit with wide-leg bottoms allows for lots of air flow and breathability—and looks boho-cool, especially with your choice of rich colors and whimsical illustrations (with nods to cowboy quiet luxury). “This silk PJ set is my new ‘can't shut up about.’ I am no parts country, but the pink is bringing out all my Western vibes while still feeling city-slickin’ chic,” a Free People reviewer writes.

Material: 100% polyester | Size range: XS–XL | Momme: N/A | Colors: 6 options | Care instructions: Machine-wash cold | Features: Baggy fit, adjustable drawstring waist, pretty patterns | Price: $$

If you’re looking to dip your toes into the world of silk sleepwear without spending serious money, this set comes at an unbeatable $20 price. Its satin offers that glossy aesthetic, but a touch of spandex ensures the fabric is slippery-soft around the waist and legs. Its boxy crewneck top offsets the formality of the satin in a way that feels cozy and approachable—just right for relaxing.

Material: 95% polyester and 5% spandex | Size range: S–XXL | Momme: N/A | Colors: 27 options | Care instructions: Machine-wash cold | Features: Elastic waistband, side pockets, oversized crewneck top | Price: $

Silk is expensive, but the people who wear them told us they’re definitely worth the splurge. Silk is not only smooth and cool to the touch, but it also drapes beautifully and doesn’t cling to the body like some other fabrics. Because silk is a natural material, it’s also inherently temperature-regulating, meaning wearers will stay cooler in hot temps and warmer in cold temps. The pearly sheen is always a nice touch too.

Mommes (mm) is a unit used to measure the quality of silk—like thread count in cotton sheets. The higher the momme count, the more durable (and expensive) the fabric’s individual silk fibers and weave usually are. Most silk pajamas (and silk pillowcases) are in the 19 to 25 momme range (19 is standard; 25 is very high-quality).

Mulberry silk is produced from the cocoons of silkworms that eat mulberry tree leaves (versus other kinds of silk, made by worms that feed off of a variety of plants). Its long, smooth fibers are known for feeling softer and smoother than other types of silk—and mulberry silk is usually longer-lasting, if you follow care instructions.

There are plenty of machine-washable silk pajamas on the market, but check the label on your garment. Experts generally recommend washing silk by hand—despite what any care label may say. “Hand-wash [silk] in cold water with gentle oil-free hand soap,” says Kay Lee, owner of NoLita boutique and boho-cool clothing label Otte New York. “Then squeeze or dab with a towel, and hang on a hanger to dry. Don't twist and wring—it will break the delicate silk fibers.”

Silk Nightwear Set The best way to get wrinkles out of silk is to use a steamer rather than an iron, says Lee. If possible, try not to let these pieces wrinkle in the first place. As mentioned, don’t twist or wring, as this will break the delicate silk fibers. And always hang silk pieces in closets rather than let them ball up in your drawer, Lee says.
