WALL, NJ — When a Wawa in town closed for New year's Eve, that didn't stop some people from entering the unlocked store and taking some items without paying for them, Wall police said.

And now police are investigating and want people who took items to contact them. dead bolt lock

At about 2 a.m. on Monday, police were alerted that the Wawa on Route 35 and Lakewood Road was open with no employees in the business.

Police found a note on the door saying the business would be closed from 11 p.m. on New Years Eve until 6 a.m. New Year’s Day.

But Wawa management told police the store was closed but was left open due to an "oversight" - the door lock was broken, police said.

A review of surveillance footage showed people entering the business and taking items without paying for them when they found there were no employees inside.

Wall Police are attempting to identify the people who took the items without paying.

If you are one of these people - or know who took items without paying, police urge you to contact Detective Ty Hughes 732-449-4500.
