SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A gate security barrier was deployed at Naval Base San Diego Wednesday morning to prevent a vehicle from entering, officials at the base confirmed to FOX 5.

According to Public Affairs Officer Krishna Jackson, one of the base’s unmarked security vehicles had not undergone proper vetting, prompting the barrier deployment.

The vehicle sustained damage and the occupants were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No further details regarding those inside the vehicle were immediately released.

“This is an internal investigation since the incident happened on base and we are not at a heightened security threat level,” said Jackson. “We closed Gate 43 to conduct damage assessments and an investigation.”

The official also explained that traffic notes have been released on social media, informing the public of the temporary gate closures. Updates will be provided on Naval Base San Diego’s X, Facebook and Instagram accounts (@navalbasesd).
