This South Jersey clothing designer hits grand slam with Phils

CHERRY HILL — T-shirt designer Scott Soffen has gotten a big boost from a small fan of his work.

Scott Soffen created a shirt that that gives a nod to the Phillies' recent trip to London and an iconic band from the United Kingdom. wholesale t shirts

The eye-catching shirt features a photo of four Phillies — Brandon Marsh, Garrett Stubbs, Cristian Pache and Kyle Schwarber — walking single file across a London street with a white Volkswagen Beetle in the background.

It’s inspired by the iconic cover of the Beatles' Abbey Road album, released in September 1969.

Sales took off after Liam Castellanos, the young son of Phillies' outfielder Nick Castellanos, was recently spotted in the shirt.

“And the reason Liam was wearing the shirt was that I sent over 50 shirts to the Phillies and had somebody drop them off at the lockers and Liam put it on." said Soffen, owner of Clothing Scott.

"Liam is the T-shirt genius of media. I didn’t know he was going to wear it but when he wore it, it just went viral...He’s the real star, not me.”

The shirt’s title plays off The Beatles’ hit, “With a Little Help From My Friends,” which was featured on the 1967 multi-platinum album, “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.”

“I watch the sports stations; I like sports,” Soffen said. “I see fun things happening and I say, ‘That’s a great idea.' . Somebody ran that picture of the Phillies in London. I went through the Beatles’ list and I said the best words to cover that would be the ones that I put on there."

Clothing Scott’s website says it offers branding and personalized items in private label clothing, gifts and promotional products. It also offers embroidery, screen and digital printing, manufacturing, sales and distribution.

Soffen has been in the clothing design and manufacturing business for more than 34 years.

He sells to professional sports leagues, schools, restaurants and political parties, among others..

Soffen has also designed headbands to support children with cancer and has done other charity T-shirts.

When Mitchell & Ness contracted him to make authentic, throwback sports jerseys worn by many rappers, his business was truly on the map.

The younger Castellanos also wore the Phillies-styled shirt at batting practice with his dad before Wednesday's game against the San Diego Padres.

Fans followed his lead. Soffen says the orders have been steady.

The shirt can be purchased through Clothing Scott's website for $17.50. It’s listed under the “What’s hot” area on the website.

Liam Castellanos also had some viral moments last season for his reactions to his dad’s home runs during the NLDS.

The young boy's “battle-cry” shirt was a hit last fall.

“I contacted him through the Phillies and I’m trying to get him to put out a Liam T-shirt line,” Soffen added. “My portion, I would donate the money to Phillies ALS. We’ll see what happens.”
