A Malaysian lawyer has gone viral after he took to TikTok to share a heartwarming story about a mother who stole an RM18 pencil box as a gift for her son who did well in school.
In his video over five minutes long, Amzaharil recounted the incident in 1998 when he had represented a Malaysian Indian woman after discovering that she was to be sent to prison for theft. Pencil Bag With Compartments
The woman had promised her son that she would purchase the fancy pencil box fitted with a sharpener if he got first place in school. Unfortunately, coming from poverty, she was unable to buy the gift for her child.
Wanting to keep to her promise, she resorted to stealing the pencil box.
Amzaharil, who found the woman in court, later on double-checked with the school's headmaster about the incident and discovered that what she had claimed was true.
He then decided to represent her for free.
Fast forward, Amzaharil was approached by a man who then turned out to be the son of the woman he had assisted.
"The man said, 'You may not remember, sir, but I was the boy who wanted the pencil box. Now I'm a lawyer, sir'," Amzaharil recounted.
Amzaharil said he now frequently meets the man and his mother.
"I will never forget this memory until the day I die."
