Traka will be exhibiting at ISC West, and Campus Safety spoke with Vice President of Sales and Business Development Craig Newell about what visitors to their booth can expect to see and experience.

Campus Safety: What is the top product or offering your company is showing off at ISC West this year, and what makes it special? How does it apply to healthcare facilities, schools and/or higher education security, public safety and/or emergency management?

Craig Newell: Traka is a global leader in intelligent systems that manage keys and equipment. Our Traka Touch Pro key cabinets are our latest in a line of advanced solutions that effectively safeguard the most fundamental asset of security: keys.

We’re fortunate to partner with healthcare facilities, schools, law enforcement, first responders, and other security sectors across the world to improve efficiency and operations by maintaining an audit trail of key usage, designating access to appropriate users, reducing the chance of a lost or stolen key, and integrating with existing access control solutions.

In addition to critical access control, our key cabinets can be leveraged for fleet management. They empower healthcare facilities and educational institutions to have clearer insight into who has which vehicle and allows the user to input into the interface if there’s an issue with the vehicle, i.e. it needs service or is low on fuel. That can then remove the key and vehicle from rotation, which cuts down on the possibility of a user mistakenly checking out a faulty vehicle and extends the overall life of the fleet, which can save organizations money.

CS: What other products or offerings would you like to highlight, and what are some of their qualities and benefits?

Newell: Traka will also be showcasing our intelligent, modular Asset Management Lockers. Like our key cabinets, our lockers provide efficient management of shared devices.

These lockers are completely customizable and include such features as charging cradles for shared items like phones, tablets, scanners, and radios. The items can be RFID tagged, which increases the tracking capabilities for administrators. Our lockers can also be programmed with our First In, First Out feature, which prioritizes a charged asset to a user. Also, like the fleet management example provided earlier, lockers can be programmed with fault logging, so if an employee drops or damages a shared asset, they can enter that fault into the system when they return it and the locker will remove it from circulation.

CS: How do your company and its offerings address the needs of hospitals, schools and/or universities?

Newell: Schools and healthcare providers come to us every day, looking for ways to improve their efficiency and protect against unauthorized access to sensitive areas of their facilities.  Some are operating with outdated processes like pegboards or manually issuing keys and assets, and they recognize the importance of prioritizing solutions that will impact not only security operations but other departments like maintenance, food service, and IT.

Regarding education in particular, the recent string of violent incidents has underscored the critical need for immediate access to sensitive keys, both for staff on-site and local first responders. We’ve seen incredible collaboration between both sectors as they pursue greater safety measures and strongly encourage communities across the world to do the same. Those efforts mirror ongoing legislation within state governments to ensure greater key management and security within schools, and our solutions are valuable tools for schools to remain in compliance with those laws.

CS: What else is new or noteworthy about your company for 2024?

Newell: Security threats continue to evolve daily and as such, we consistently invest considerable time and resources into researching and developing new technology that will address those concerns. We’re expanding into an ever-growing number of sectors and verticals, as our solutions have a universal appeal to any organization concerned with improving efficiency.

CS: What is your company’s overall value proposition to schools, universities and/or hospitals? Why should they do business with you?

Newell: Safety and security are top priorities for every school and healthcare facility. Our solutions not only integrate with existing systems to strengthen access control, but provide greater accountability into who is accessing what, and deliver a clear return on investment when you consider time saved in looking for lost/stolen assets or having to re-key a facility after a critical key has been misplaced.

CS: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Newell: It’s one thing to read about these solutions or look at the pictures, but it’s another to be able to touch and see how they actually function and improve operations. If you’re at ISC West this year, please come by our booth (#7077), and we’ll be happy to demonstrate how they work so you can see for yourself the benefits they provide. traka.com
