Annabel Oakes now has two bones to pick with Paramount+. In addition to being canceled after one season, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is also being taken off the platform, and the series’ creator has something to say about it. Mineral Hydraulic Fluid

After confirming Grease‘s cancellation to her followers on Instagram, Oakes posted the following message to her story on Friday: “In a particularly brutal move, it is also being removed from [Paramount+] next week and unless it finds a new home you will no longer be able to watch it anywhere. The cast, my creative partners and I are all devastated at the complete erasure of our show.”

She then thanked the show’s “beautiful” fans, assuring them that “the music will remain even after the show is taken down. … People are already sending me messages and videos about how much the show meant to them, and I absolutely love hearing and seeing them.” Related Stories The Thundermans: Our Kid Reporter Grills Kira Kosarin and Jack Griffo About the Revival Movie, Evil Bunnies and More — Watch Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly Shares How Little Wing Helped Get Her Ready and Raring to ‘Strap Beth Back On’ Again

Ultimately, Oakes says she only wants one thing now from anyone reading: “for you to watch the show before it comes down.”

Ari Notartomaso, who was named one of TVLine’s Performer of the Week honorable mentions for her work as Pink Lady Cyn, also mourned the show’s loss on social media.

“I have cried all day knowing that we got to make something that made us and so many people watching feel seen and represented, and, at the same time, that this is yet another show added to the list of diverse casts and sapphic main characters that were pulled after a first season,” Notartomaso wrote. “But it happened, and we’re here, and I love you all so much. We may not have more Cynthia, but you’ll always have me. (I promise you I’ll be auditioning for every little butch they let me till the day I die).”

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies was one of four major titles whose cancellation was confirmed earlier today. Paramount+ is also opting not to move forward with additional seasons of The Game, Queen of the Universe and Star Trek: Prodigy, though post-production will be completed on Prodigy (which was previously renewed) before it’s shopped elsewhere.

Do you think that, maybe this happens because NO ONE IS WATCHING?? I’ve read so many reviews that have said nothing but how utterly bad this show is.

As a die hard Grease Fan and a musical theatre educated person, this is truly disappointing. This show brought to life so many characters from long ago. It was well written, music was great, acting was phenomenal and man they could sing and dance. Most importantly, it pointed out Social issues at the time that no one ever talked about back then. Crossing my fingers and praying someone else picks it up because the Pink Ladies deserve a return!!

The way this show has been treated is just abhorrent. This show deserved a shot & never got it. I also pray that someone pick it up along with “Star Trek: Prodigy.” Both shows are really great & deserve to be seen.

This show never got a shot, while getting its shot on Paramount. See how really simple you sound?

Thanks for confirming that. I mentioned this show to my mom a few weeks ago as she loves Grease. Not sure if she’s watched it but I’ll suggest she try and do so this weekend.

Piracy now and piracy forever…

Genuine question: what’s the reasoning for not having the show after it’s cancelled? That seems weird to me.

I’ve heard that there are tax breaks to be had in some cases, but licensing these shows out to other services or tv stations (even as part of a bundle deal) could also make them more money than keeping a dead show on their own platform. A lot of streaming services have been producing underperforming material for years, and wasting a lot of money doing it. At some point, they need to figure out how to make some money in order to fund the next generation of poorly written, underperforming shows.

You know it would be bitterly ironic if we went from having just a few streaming services, to networks creating their own in order to make money, thus segmenting things and making it more expensive for viewers, to those same networks just selling those properties to the more established streaming services so we end up back where we were but everyone financially worse off.

People ARE watching Star Trek Prodigy, so I guess that shoots THAT theory…

Officially Paramount+ axed the four shows due to “cost-cutting measures” which I find bull, according to tv.parrotanalytics.com in the uk alone the audience percentage is amazing I can see streaming sites having to make cuts to save money but if a show is in high demand and people want more why not cancel shows which are no longer pullng in the views because I personally was willing to subscribe to Paramount+ just because of Rise of the Pink Ladies.

After this don’t think I will as I don’t want to get invested in a show only for theme to pull it without warning.

Loved this show been recommending it but most people will not get a chance to watch if they remove it that quickly. It’s barely been out. Companies getting to greedy now days.

Not enough people subscribe to Paramount+. And probably never will. So they have to produce shows that appeal to the most people. And unfortunatly that’s pablum.

I had three more shows to watch since i only found it and had no idea it was being pulled! I planned to share it with my family! It was very well done! So disappointed!

Haven’t watched yet because I prefer watching multiple episodes at a time rather than waiting week to week. Very disappointing that I won’t get the chance to see it now.

It’s not gone just yet, if you have the time you should try to watch it before its gone! I think there might be a code for you to sign up for Paramount for free to watch it PINKLADIES if the code still works

OMG Paramount what are you doing??? This is a great show and dealt with a lot of great issues!!!! Boy if this wasn’t the only place I could watch my CBS shows I would cancel!!! But I really hope one of the other outlets will pick up this awesome show with a great cast!!!!!

So sad =( I thoroughly enjoyed the show and was SO hoping for a second season! The whole cast was so talented and fun to watch I seriously don’t understand all the bad reviews and negative opinions people have on the show.

I’m so disappointed that Rise of the Pink Ladies was cancelled. I loved everything about season 1 and had been looking for any information on a second season. I loved all of the main ladies and the songs were the best. I’ve been obsessively listening to them since I finished the show.

I’m so upset. I’ve watched pink ladies so many times already. I hope another company will pick it up. I need the continuation to happen. They can’t just leave it there.

I’m so upset. I’ve watched pink ladies so many times already. I hope another company will pick it up. I need the continuation to happen. They can’t just leave it there we need more

Huh. No reference to Real World: Homecoming. Does that mean that despite the cringy New Orleans seasion (no thank to someone whose name rhymes with “dulie”), there’s still a chance there may be other seasons?

This show was a complete trainwreck. I’m sorry but you can’t have complete REPRESENTATION of something during a time that didn’t have complete REPRESENTATION. It’s called history y’all. We can’t go back and change history but we can certainly learn something from it. I am a gay, married male and I do not want to see a movie or TV show that completely misrepresents what society was during my youth. Just a horrible show.

I wouldn’t even mind if it were a fantasy series, like Bridgerton or Hollywood. But how is this school the same school where Grease takes place a couple of years later? None of that film’s conflicts happen if it takes place in an extremely progressive school.

I love Bridgerton and I love that the show does push for diversity (even when the show is set at a time there wasn’t much of it) without characters preaching about it and being in your face about it. The Velaryon characters in House of The Dragon are another good example. Make the characters and story good and I bet most people won’t bat an eye. Make the whole thing about identity politics and no story/character development legs, and blame it all on diversity, there you have it, a bad preachy show and a bored audience.

This post won’t earn me any fans, but here I go anyway… I remember when a show was canned back in the day, people involved with the show would go on about how much story they had left to tell, and how much they’d miss the characters. Today, they act as though they deserve a renewal because diversity. Maybe if stories or characters had ever been a priority, someone might have watched these shows. And maybe the writers should prioritize writing stories that attract an audience before they go on strike and demand more money.

Oh please, I am so over the standard “maybe you should prioritize telling a good story over diversity” argument that is thrown around whenever a show with a diverse cast is canceled witch is brainlessly copy, cut, and pasted by people who never bothered to watch the show anyways. Especially when it’s coming from people that ONLY watch movies and shows that align with their personal beliefs. . But your more then welcome to prove me wrong by naming at least a few of the movies or shows that you watch where the social politics of the said media do not align with your beliefs.

This is sad hate they cancelled this great show but they can keep that show where they treat native Americans bad. I stopped watching that mess when they showed the teacher beating that young lady i think the show is part of the yellow stone show. I really hope that the rise of the pink ladies finds a better home i really enjoyed this show. Better than that western even though i like the actors. Just proves that they like violence more than good quality TV

I’m probably going to be called a bigot or something, but I’m so tired of this “woe is me”, “look how diverse we are, “we got cancelled because of racists/phobes” whining. Maybe the show wasn’t that good or just didn’t find an audience? I don’t think diversity is a problem and I’m sure most people welcome it when it’s not all about it or “look, look how diverse we are!” What I do notice is that people are really tired of things like virtue signaling and preachy shows that focus too much on politics. While talking about politics and identity is necessary in media, guess what, some people just wanna sit down and have a good time watching something. Also, if the writing is good enough you can approach these topics and make the viewers think for themselves instead of making it obvious and preaching about what is right and wrong.

They didn’t give the show a chance to grow its audience, the season finale just aired at the beginning of this month and as streaming culture has grown into what it is today a lot of people wait to watch till all episodes are available or even until the show gets a second season just because of how many great shows like this one get canceled after only one season and people are tired of getting attached to the characters and stories only to be let down in the end by companies who only care to fatten their bottom line rather than truly making great content. Even when a fan can find a show as awesome as this one it never seems to make it in the long run.

Yeah. No show gets that anymore. If you aren’t a huge hit, by whatever metrics they use, within a month of the premier, you are axed. They don’t have time for folks to eventually watch. They need buzzy hits RTFN. Not at some point.

Someone absolutely has to pick this show up! There is so much more to the stories of these young ladies to be told, these characters have plenty more to say and sing about. What platform will be smart enough to pick this series up and run with it? Netflix, Max who is ready to be champions of the streaming svcs. and knock one out of the park?

I saw Pink Ladies advertised everywhere, they had merch at Target. I don’t think it’s from lack of trying to get eyes on it, I think it’s from lack of interest

This show is EVERYTHING!!! When it first came out I encouraged all of my friends to get Paramount plus just for this show. I own my own advertising agency and sample many shows across many streaming, cable, and broadcast platforms. Pink Ladies features brilliant writing that is forward thinking while keeping true to the original film. I don’t support this decision by Paramount Plus. Poor, poor, poor decision.

Gay people existed in the time period of Grease. Gay people have always existed. They always will. Portraying them in the time of Grease is actually more accurate than the original Grease-which,by the way is hardly, an accurate portrayal of the 1950s (and, for that matter, there were absolutely no schools in which people sang and danced in the hallways in the 1950s). I think the eagerness to cancel shows with gay content is very concerning and I think the attempts to deny the problem are even more concerning.

As a stalwart Grease fan, I was so excited for this show. I got through two episodes and just couldn’t get into it. I think the singing was fine, but the acting was quite sophomoric, in my opinion. It’s sad it had to end, because from most of the comments on here, people seemed to like it, but it just never caught on for me.

I am very devastated at the show’s cancellation! ‘Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies’ brought me so much joy.. especially as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Like the Pink Ladies, I didn’t fit in when I was in high school. The show brought me and other people comfort and it healed my high school self.

We get it, you didn’t like the show but being sarcastic and making up outlandish stories is just rubbing salt in the wound don’t you think. I mean as a part of the lgb community myself I thought it sucked Donkey baws, but let’s be nice to those that did like it for what ever messed up reason, ok.

Cancelling Sar Trek Prodigy is a brutal decision and one that Paramount will quickly regret. It will be picked up by another streamer or broadcast network and will do very well wherever it goes.

I’m pissed. I adored this show and was looking forward to season 2. Not happy Paramount+

People ARE watching Star Trek Prodigy, so I guess that shoots THAT theory…
